I learned to make this in cooking class like in 1963... Yikes! Only my teacher called it "toad in a hole" I made it many times over the decades, for my son and now it's a request from my 7 year old cousin when she comes over! Big hit with kids.

So easy! So delicious! Trick is to let the bread soak up all the melted butter! I make it fun by cutting holes into holiday shapes (i.e. Christmas trees, hearts, dogs & cats... whatever cookie cutters I have & whatever holiday inspires me! This is now one of my son's favorites!!!!

Wow haven't seen this recipe in forever! Boy does this remind me of summers at my Great Aunt's house in Mississippi. She used to make these for me and my brothers all the time.

This is by far my family's favorite breakfast. I saved the piece's of bread from the hole and made p-nut butter and jelly circle's for lunch : Children really loved that.

This is probably the only recipe I remember from my high school home economics class (we called it Rabbit in a Hole. It's very simple to make and very tasty. And it's unique, so it impresses people you cook it for. Just ensure your hole is the right size (not too big and not too small. Eat one for a light breakfast or two for a filling option.

This is our new favorite breakfast (and sometimes supper
My youngest son & I watched Pioneer Woman for the first time the other day. It was a repeat of the episode with the Egg-in-a-Hole recipe. WE FELL IN LOVE WITH BOTH THIS RECIPE AND WITH REE!
They were very easy to make. We use a heart-shaped cookie cutter for ours. I also melt my butter first and then lightly brush it on the bread before I place it on the skillet. Be sure to butter and cook the circle that you cut out (heart in our case. It's delicious when you toast it up too.
I even made them with a scrambled egg in the middle for my son with Aspergers that won't eat eggs unless they're scrambled. I told him to take one bite and if he hated it, someone else would eat it. HE ACTUALLY LOVED THEM! Yay!

I watch the show and made egg in the hole and I used olive oil though and it came out amazing. Delicious, this is a keeper.
