Fabulous!! Every bite was a perfect balance of a delicate crunch of toast with a soft bite of egg. The butter had a slightly browned taste which sent this dish over the edge - yum!! Not an every day dish though with a tablespoon of butter, so next time I might try what someone suggested about buttering toast first. Oh, and don't forget to toast the cut-out in the pan, too, to use for dipping!

I remember my Grampy making these for the 5 grandchildren in when we would visit in the summer. That was about 1965, I think. I've made them for years for my family. They are really good made with sourdough or rye bread.

My husband just loves this. It has become one of his favorite breakfasts. All I have to do is add bacon!

These were easy to make and very quick! The second time I made them I put a little butter directly on the bread before putting in the skillet. I found I didn't need to use quite as much butter but the bread still browned very nicely.

My family makes these all the time. We have fresh farm eggs, and they are so delish! If you want, you can top them with syrup and take a fun twist on traditional french toast! ( Just don't add pepper if you do that!
