Excellent. The crust was flaky and delicious. The ratio of apples to crust was perfect. I think I prefer the flat pie over the traditional pie (gasp ;-. I added a 1/2 tablespoon of cinnamon to the apples. I served the pie with the homemade caramel sauce she made on the show. Delicious!

I was so excited to try this recipe after watching Ree make it this morning on her show, but something went very wrong. I used her pie crust recipe and dotted the pies with 6 tbsp of butter before baking. After 15 min, the butter melted, then leaked out through the cracks in the sides of the crust and formed a pool around both pies. Thinking that wasn't good for the crust, I took the pies out of the oven and spooned out 1/4 cup of butter/apple juices that were swimming at the bottom. After 50 minutes the crusts were still not cooked all the way through, so I must've messed up the recipe. I'll have to try it again to see where I went wrong. Hopefully that will also prevent the pie juices from leaking out, which happened tonight, preventing my apples from getting bubbly. In the end, the crust that did brown, was definitely flakey and tastey and the apples were tender with just a hint of sweetness. In spite of myself, this pie still tasted great, so I'll definitely make it again!

My, oh, my! Is this ever a terrific dessert! The crust is incredibly tender and delicious; the best pie crust I've ever made. The filling is delightful, too. Both are very easy to make. My son (adult, but not very experienced in the kitchen and I threw this together really quickly. I forgot the flour for the apples & sprinkled it atop the fruit; it turned out fine anyway. We will make this again, for certain.

This was so easy & so good! I made one pie using Honeycrisp apples, chopped up a small handful of cranberries to add the bite the apples didn't have, did an egg wash with the remaining egg & sprinkled with sugar. The crust was so flaky! This will definitely be the new go to apple pie recipe!

I also used a store bought pie crust and there was more filling around the apple pie than in the pie.....I also will try her crust to make sure that this doesn't happen again!!!!

I have absolutely found my go to pie crust recipe :] I have never tasted a flakier crust ever !!!!!!
We also farm, and especially on these cold winter days, it's a real delight to have that warm apple pie smell in the house when the family comes in after a long day of work.
Enjoyed your show this morning at 10 am and eating the pie at 6 15 tonight :]

well... I love watching Ree and her family,(secretly looking for a cowboy of my own and decided to try the flat apple pie. I didn't make her pie crusts; as I am short on patience. So I used the store bought kind. It didn't go well. While the apples taste great, ALL of the filling spewed out all over the pan. The apples remained in place in the crusts, but for some reason both pies were drained of all the luscious sugars and butter. I guess I should have made Ree's pie crusts.

Easy and tasty. Young kids love working with the pie wrapping the crust. Definitely looks rustic at that time. Tastes great and easy to handle. Makes a whole different kind. Loved by the family.
