This is a wonderful recipe.Ree is a terrific addition to Food Network, and I hope she continues to have at least a weekly show. You are bringing some class back to Food Network. I love all her recipes as well as her personality, and maybe you are finally getting away from those silly challenges.

Not a pie maker here and I always get sucked into trying "this never-fail recipe" from any and everyone. This recipe stands up to it's promise!! This is the FIRST flakey pie I have EVER made! LOVE IT and so does my family! In fact, I've make extra dough to keep in the frig for a last minute pie any night of the week. Thank You Ree! You have a dedicated fan here.

This is going to be my go to recipe from now on. I too took the advise and baked in seperate dishes and my family devoured it within minutes. This was my first recipe from Ree but definately won't be my last. Thank you for cooking and baking like I do!

    Family first!

We are getting ready to move to Southwestern Montana from Maryland and are going to live on a ranch and raise cattle along with other farm animals. I am so glad that The Pioneer Women has been brought to foodnetwork.
This recipe is just what the doc. ordered for my busy family. Thank you Ree.

In the words of my pre-teen daughter, OMG! This was my first pie crust and I am never going frozen again. Since a few reviews mentioned messy outcomes, I prepared each pie as Ree says to but put each in its own pie dish which worked beautifully. I was still able to use the pizza cutter to make perfect slices "to go."

I made this pie and yes it made a mess. Didn't make much difference. My hubby and kids devoured it. I used pre-made pie dough. I won't do that again. I'll make it from scratch. Pie was so delicious. I love PW's recipes. Keepim Comin PW.

Made the pie crust, really easy to make and chilled it before I rolled it out for the pie and it did great. Made the apple pie filling to go in it and it was great. It is so easy to make. This will be my apple pie from now on.Made the homemade caramel sauce and drizzled on top and it was out of this world. My family really loved it

I thought it was a quick easy apple pie. I had a store bought pie dough, so used it. It was wonderful. Only thing I would change would be to add a couple teaspoons of cinnamon to the apple mixture.

I first tried the first recipe with only shortening and I froze it. It was hard to roll out. Maybe I didn't thaw it long enough. Then I made the recipe with butter and shortening and chilled it for about an hour. It was much easier to work with although this dough does require a lot of flour for rolling out. I thought about trying the food processor next time but I read the review that said not to use that method. I did notice on the show that her butter didn't look as solid as mine and seemed easier to blend. I'm going to try again with a little softer butter. I do love this pie crust. It is delicious. I use my old recipe for the apple filling and I put it in a pie pan and cook it at 400 for 40 to 50 minutes. Also use an egg wash and a sprinkle of sugar on the crust. Happy baking to all!

We LOVED this apple pie! I haven't made a homemade pie crust in years because they never turned out flaky enough but because I absolutely love Ree I decided to try it. The crust was so amazing, buttery and flaky. My husband usually leaves the crust on the plate because it just doesn't do anything for him but he raved about this one!!!! I will never make another pie crust again but Ree's!! I did have leakage but I think that's a personal problem! I will make this again and again!
