I saw the episode where Ree made this cake for her daughter and I was intrigued, and a little skeptical. Prunes and buttermilk icing? Boy am I glad I tried it, it was delicious! I followed the directions to the letter and the cake was moist, smelled wonderful, and the icing came together very easily. Loved, loved, loved it, and so did my husband.

I hate prunes but this is so good and my husband loved it! Almost reminds me of a mild gingerbread. It didnt call for salt but I added a pinch. I checked it after 35 minutes but was still raw in the middle so I put heat to 350 for 10 more minutes and it was perfect. The "icing" topped it off perfectly.Im going to call it sugar plum fairy cake and serve it to my nieces while Im in England this Christmas!

The show about Alex's birthday intrigued me, so I made this cake yesterday for my own birthday. WOW! The only changes I made were to add a pinch of salt to the cake and also a pinch to the icing because I use unsalted butter. My husband, who is a fussy foodie, thought it was the best cake of its kind (mild spice cake He DOES think it would be a wonderful holiday dessert for company, unlike another reviewer. I do like the idea of adding nuts, though. It is definitely sweet, but aren't desserts supposed to be sweet? :-

Very tasty, moist and also extremely sweet. Have to eat with ice cream or you''ll be bouncing off the walls. I will also call it plum cake. It took longer than 5 minutes for the icing to turn caramel color so don't give up the boiling at cream colored. It is also not visually appealing so it's not something I would serve whilst entertaining; more like a family style dessert.

SO GOOD! I told my kids it was a plum cake instead of a prune cake, they loved it. Definatly a family favorite.

Honestly, me and my husband thought prune cake sounds little gross somehow when we saw the TV show but we both love it after we tast it! I also thought it's bit too sweet at first but I can't stop eating so maybe this sweetness is just right.

This cake was moist and tasty. I made it and shared with the neighbors, it got thumbs-up and 5 stars from all 8 of us! I didn't want chunks of the prunes so I cut the prunes with a pair of scissors before cooking and smashing

This was the first recipe I used from the cookbook. I think, grand total, it lasted 2 days. Ridiculously moist and yummy. I sprinkled chopped walnuts on the cake before pouring the hot icing on, which my husband loved. Absolutely worth every second to make this cake!!
