The first batch lasted less than a day, everyone gobbled them up so fast, and moaned. I cut them into brownie bites, and stuck in candy cups. The second, double batch,(in a 9x13 pan is in the oven, this time made with German chocolate on the bottom, and red velvet cake mix on top. Also I melted the caramels and chocolate together. Great go to recipe for a dessert to knock-them-naked. Simple, easy, and the method can be used with any cake mix, I think.

Before putting the bottom half of dough in the pan, line the pan with plastic wrap with some extra hanging over the sidesto form "handles". Press half of dough into the pan (Yes, on top of the plastic wrap to form a layer; then lift it out of the pan by the overhanging plastic wrap "handles", then proceed with pressing the other half of dough in pan to form your first layer. Once ready to place the second layer of dough on top of the caramel/chips, just flip the extra layer on the plastic over top of the caramel layer......so easy, easier than trying to smoosh the top layer over the runny caramel, and no need to refrigerate. Works for other dual layer recipes too such as Cresent Roll Cheese Danish which my family adores. took me a while to figure out an easy way to get that top layer of dough over placed over a gooey layer.

AH-MAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I will never make another type of brownie... just make them for yourself and you will see... A couple people said they had to keep the dough cold in order to get the top square to work, if you just smoosh it out on a piece of wax paper then you can flip the whole thing into the dish and peel away the paper, crazy easy!!! i think ill go make more now...:

This is the BEST brownie recipe EVER! I'll never look at brownies the same way again! I do think next time I just may buy the caramel sauce, but it was so good. The whole pan lasted less than 12 hours in my house.....needless to say they are amazing, but I won't be making them too often.

Divine! A couple of easy swap outs: use one can of "Dulce de Leche" (from the "Hispanic" aisle in place of the caramels (unwrapping those suckers can be time consuming. Heat up the Dulce de Leche in the microwave for about 45 seconds (and thin with a tablespoon or two of the evaporated milk if necessary. Save the pecans for the same layer as the caramel and chocolate chips---it makes the brownie layers easier to spread! Thanks, as always, Ree for taking simple ingredients and combining them in new and unique ways to keep our bellies (and our hubbies so happy!

The brownies were awesome! I could not find caramels at the store but so I bought an 11 oz. package of Kraft caramel bits. I decreased the evaporated milk I put with the caramels to 1/4 cup. The top layer did not go on well but still tasted great. Next time I will try chilling the dough I'm going to use for the top after I spread it out. I will definitely make these again!

These should come with a warning, totally addictive! Make sure to keep 2nd half cold as it is easier to deal with for the topping. I also pressed it out on a thin flexible cutting board and it was much easier to put on top. Sooo good!

Fantastic - however.... the recipe calls for 60 caramels - the bags only come in 48 - do NOT give them to your husband to unwrap - I have no idea how many I was left with and my caramel sauce was WAY to runny - spooned out 4 tbsp of evaporated milk!! I also highly recommend using the wax paper when doing the second layer of brownies! And .... there is NO way I'm getting naked after eating these!! haha!!
