Dear Pioneer Woman, I was ambivalent about these brownies. I was longing so hard that they might turn out wonderful as it looked like when you made them.. My german chocolate mix was not enough for the 2nd layer..so I opened up a 2nd box of duncan hines brownie mix and used it as the 2nd layer. I put it in the fridge overnight and it turned out HARD.. maybe bc i refrigerated it too much.. I was disappointed that it didn't turn out stellar bc of the money and time I put into it.. but no biggie, bc my nieces are enjoying them! :

By far the best brownie recipe I have ever come across. I have made them twice and everyone has raved about them. The second time I made these I did not mix the condensed milk with the melted caramels and my husband preferred that; it made the caramel a little bit harder and chewier. (I prefer using the milk and having a creamier caramel layer

Can't decide how I feel about these cookies. They were delicious, yes, sinfully delicious - but they made me cheat on my diet. Oh, the guilt.
I'm pretty sure it was worth it though. The only thing I'll change about these next time I make them is having a bit less caramel and not letting the caramel touch the edges, as some other posters suggested. That should make them less sticky to eat!
Overall, make them...but at your own risk. ;

Heaven personified. Love that the pecans chopped small -I even ground mine to get that pecan flavor without the nut chunks I don't enjoy in brownies. I short the caramel by 8-10 caramels for ease of eating and more of a brownie w/caramel experience -less gooey but faboulous. After making them 3 times I started cutting the bottom dough/brownie while in the mixing bowls at the half point and pressing it into the pan, slowly. Cool them real well before eating, line pan with parchment or foil for easy removal before you cut, don't put the caramel completely to the edges for ease of removal. Truly good.

Chewy, decadent and delicious! My son, who doesn't usually comment on the taste of foods, told me these were 'really good' (he had with coffee ice cream too! The grocery had only one choice for the German Choc cake mix, and it was DH but with a coconut icing mix in the box. So I used that icing and left out the powdered sugar. Would like to taste it with the powdered sugar too ...but was still scrumptious.

These were really yummy brownies! They were hard to take out of the pan and didn't stay as together as Ree's, but the taste was awesome!
