I just made this and it's awesome. It's exactly what it is supposed to be: a CLASSIC macaroni and cheese.
If you're looking for mac & cheese with tomatoes or canned soups, go elsewhere.
Be sure you use the eggs (two, don't know why this recipe states 1, they aren't for thickening the sauce, per say (it should already be somewhat thick when you add the eggs, but the eggs aid in the silky texture of the sauce.
You also need to add adequate salt and seasoning. She states several times to taste and adjust the seasonings to your family's taste. A major component of good mac & cheese is adequate salt. If your mac & cheese is bland, it is of your own fault.
I also think it's unfair for some to give this recipe a very low rating when they didn't even follow the directions.
I can see how this can easily be made into a fast weeknight meal with broccoli, cooked chicken. YUM!

It was good. Nothing over the top just a good simple mac and cheese and it's just perfect for the kids. I love how simple it is to make, you can easily cook this up on a weeknight. I have picky eaters and a vegetarian so this recipe pleased the entire family. I just love Ree's recipes, they feel more realistic and fitting with busy families.

This recipe just didn't work. It was too dry and lacked flavor. I'm always up to try new things but when it comes to Mac-N-Cheese, I'll stick to Patti LaBelle's recipe.

I simply love mac and cheese and wanted to try this recipe. I followed the directions and it came out as expected, however, the taste initially was good; but became just okay after several minutes and spoonfulls. I dont believe i enjoyed the flour/mustard it seemed like a gift and curse. I feel TRUE mac and cheese requires a mix of cheeses and heavy cream. Both Sunny Anderson and Ina Garten make fabulous mac and cheese dishes....Sorry Pioneer.

Oh my goodness! This is a hit for both my family and friends. I have made this several times now, its quick and easy with simple ingredients, each time I make it I use mostly chedder but add a couple of different cheeses and everyone raves! The only problem is that I never make enough, it's time to double up on this one!

This is the best mac and cheese ever. My entire family loves this dish and would love for me to makes it daily but that is not happening. The recipe is so easy to make and it goes fast in my family. The mustard adds a nice touch. A must make dish!!

It's nice to have friends review your recipes. This one is very boring, bland and not very exciting. There are many more mac and cheese on here that far out shine this one. Previous users should take a look at the mac and cheese with cauliflower or Sunny Anderson's mac and cheese which I made the other night and its wonderful and certainly not plain.

Amazing! I added an extra 1/4 of cheese for baking on top. Best homemade Macaroni and Cheese ever!

Fabulous!! Lots of dishes, but so amazingly delicious. We added a little velveeta for extra creaminess, more dry mustard, smoky paprika, dry thyme and a 1/4 teaspoon of red pepper for a little kick. We topped with seasoned buttered panko for crunch. The sauce was so delicious my husband and I had to stop ourselves from just eating it as a soup!! We will use this base for potato cheese soup and perhaps even a beer cheese soup!! Thanks again, Ree, for another awesome recipe!
