1. Too much Salt - ugh this is really salty... I'd suggest no more than 1 tsp Salt for 2 cups Flour
2. Too much Baking Soda - Cookie spread too much & become flat in the middle which means it would be hard to maintain the chewiness in the middle, my husband complained why it's so flat... so if prefer something thicker in the middle - no more than 1 tsp Baking Soda.
3.Lots of butter - greasy, but as it's very cold here in NZ when cooled it's ok... not good in hot countries.
4. 2 sticks of butter? The recipe could mention it in weight... I used 226g butter as 1 stick is suggested at 113g from internet info.
5. Malted milk powder? I'd never seen such product at supermarket in NZ.... instead I used standard milk powder.
It's NICE & CHEWY if I set the dough at 1Tbsp volume and bake for 7~8min, only browned on the edge, as the picture of this recipe.
If bake it brown all over the biscuit like my first tray, when it cooled it'd get really crunchy as it contains a lot of sugar.

Hi, I love your show. I made the cookies. The only thing I changed was I put in 1cup dark chocolate chips and 1 cup chocolate toffee chips. They were awesome!!!! I cooked some of the cookies for 9 min. (for those of us who like dark and crispy cookies the rest I went for 7 min. Everyone liked them so much I'm making icecream sandwiches for Moms Day.
Thanks

Very tasty although I created my own recipe for Ree's basic recipe. Instead of using two sticks of butter, I used one stick and one half cup of shortening and added one teaspoon butter extract in addition to the two teaspoon vanilla extract. I also used mini chocolate chips 1/2 the recipe size and added 1/2 white chocolate chips. Lastly, I added an two additional tablespoons of the carnation malted drink mix. In my opinion the malt came through with a punch w/o packing two much punch. Enjoy

I feel kind of bad giving such a low rating, but I was just so dissappointed. Honestly, I almost always regret trying new chocolate chip cookie recipes. I have my "perfect" cookie down to a science. Anyway, made these for a bake sale & that was a bad idea and a waste of ingredients. Flat & chewy, great....These were more like transparently flat & crispy. 2 cups of flour is not enough, at least at our altitude. I should know that & followed my instincts. Very, very suddle malt flavor. Added more flour & less bake time at a lower temp, still, just not a great cookie & was embarassed to take them to the bake sale. Sorry, love Pioneer Woman, but I wouldn't serve these at the Ranch or the suburbs.

To keep cookies from spreading, use 1/2 c butter and 1/2 c crisco instead of 2 sticks of butter. I also baked them at 350 rather than 375. They turned out much better.
