To keep cookies from spreading, use 1/2 c butter and 1/2 c crisco instead of 2 sticks of butter. I also baked them at 350 rather than 375. They turned out much better.

These were pretty good. The batter is easy to prepare, but after baking one batch for 9 minutes, the cookies were very hard and crispy. I baked the rest for only 6-7 minutes and they turned out pretty good, although I have other chocolate chip cookie recipes I prefer. My friends enjoyed them quite a bit. Overall, a pretty good recipe. Just a warning: they spread out a LOT so make sure you spread them out on the baking sheet, and watch them closely while baking.

My husband is crazy for these cookies. I have been baking for years and this is our new favorite chocolate chip cookie. They're so chewy. This cookie stays chewy and fresh for a long time. I have made these cookies numerous times. Great Cookie!!!

OK tried these again using parchment paper and made them bigger and they came out great - increased my rating to 5 stars. They didn't spread so much but still came out thin. But the flavor and chewiness was excellent. If you like a thin, chewy cookie, these are for you!!

I made these today and added more malt and still could not get the flavor. They are tasty cookies and made delicious ice cream sandwiches.

I was so disappointed by these cookies! First, no malt flavor--I put more than the 1/2 cup in the recipe and I tasted it in the batter, but not the end result. These cookies spread--A LOT!!- so beware, I could only fit 4 cookies on a sheet. Since they spread so much the chocolate chips stayed in the middle of the cookie and the rest was like thin lace (that was my favorite part of the cookie. They are also very greasy! I feel like I must have done something wrong since everyone else had such good results, but I followed recipe (except for extra malt These cookies made me sad :(

I have tried to find the perfect chocolate chip cookie, I've found it with this recipe! This is going in my recipe book and a new family tradition and staple. Thanks Ree for another great recipe!

These cookies are wonderful we ate them and I had to run to the store just to get chocolate chips to make more though I will agree that the malt is very subtle and I love malt and was expecting a little more pop from it. By far the best chocolate chip cookie recipe I have ever found.

These cookies are absolutely delicious - except that I couldn't detect one of my favorite flavors on the planet: malt. And I doubled the malt because of a couple of the comments I read here. I like that they are thin but firm so I can make "ice cream sandwiches" with them. If you are going to make these because of the "malt factor" just make them without the malt because you may be disappointed.

I agree with the reviewer who found 9 minutes baking time is too long. 7 minutes was perfect. Overall, these have good flavor, but I prefer a more substantial cookie. But it certainly is a unique chocolate chip cookie!
