The chili is great. If everyone that was bashing it read the recipe, it plainly states to add a 1/2 cup of water as needed to get the chili consistency you want. Every recipe that I have tried from Ree/pioneer woman has been delicious!!! Thank you Ree for sharing your wonderful recipes with everyone!!!

This is now our favorite chili recipe. Next time I will double it because my family enjoyed it so very much. My son, who goes to school, works, and is an EMS volunteer, will usually grab fast food. But last night, when he walked into the kitchen and smelled the chili simmering for the last ten minutes, he said he would just try a little. Two big bowls later, along with shredded cheddar and tortilla chips, along with the two big bowls my husband had, I was scraping the bottom of the pot for whatever was left over. Although I have never used it before, I think the masa harina gave the chili a great taste. I would definitely recommend this recipe to anyone who is looking for a simple recipe for a great chili. Thanks, Ree

I normally make chili from those chili kits you you buy at the store. Well my daughter had watched Ree make this on her show one day (on a re-run. She said Mom why don't you just try it, you know Dad's has been wanting to try something new. I had a church dinner the 1st Sunday in September so I thought why not. Now here in Texas you have to love chili to eat it in September when it is 109 degrees. I went to the store and got enough supplies to double the recipe. My husband works for an electric company and had to work on Sunday, but I thought I have so much chili I will have enough to bring home to freeze. I carried this to church and all I had left was one small bowl for my husband to eat when he came home. Poor Guy!!! I had so many compliments on this wonderful chili. I told them they could get the recipe off of the Food Network under The Poineer Woman, Ree Drummond. Love it and will make again and again and again. We Texans love chili!!!

Taste was great but was too meaty with just the 8oz of sauce and no actual tomatoes. It was more the consistency of sloppy joe filling instead of chili. I even added beef broth...So next time I will add 2 cans of diced tomatoes. I also added a diced jalepeno and omitted the pinto beans.

I have never been one to like homemade chili, but I LOVE this recipe! It's easy to make and we even use it to put on our chili dogs!

    Thanks Ree!

This is a good recipe. You do have to keep adding water throughout which ends up diluting the taste. I'd suggest adding the extra liquid up front (like 1-2 cups AND mixing up another batch of the spice mix to add to the meat while it's simmering. Add whatever amount to taste (for us it was a whole extra batch. The spice mix and the general ideas behind this recipe are good, though.

Another failed Ree recipe for me. This needed so much more-thank goodness I always have few pantry items on hand. There is no liquid in this to ever taste good. The recipe has an 8 oz. can of tomato sauce & then you just keep adding water? I don't see how it can even sit for an hour to reduce & thicken since there is nothing to reduce.

I had to add, 1 can of tomatoes, brown sugar, chopped onions & green bell pepper plus 3-4 cups of beef broth. I will stick with Giada, Tyler or Ina's recipes from now on since they always seem to turn out great!
