I have discarded all of my other chili recipes as this one is awesome! The recipe gave fair warning that water might need to be added in 1/2 cup increments. That worked well for me. However, it's easy to alter the ingredients to suit your taste. REE, I appreciate your making life a little easier for us working Texas girls without sacrificing DEE-liciousness.

This is a perfect, basic chili recipe that is great by iteself, or as a topping (potatoes, nachos, etc.. I did add, like others, one chopped onion when I was browning the beef and one can of beef broth with the tomato sauce and spices. Also, I find that the masa harina can be omitted entirely. I didn't think it added all that much to the dish and I'm all about making things easier!

Great recipe as-is - after I made it the way Ree wrote, I made some modifications to feed more people. As written, the chili would probably feed 6 or 7. I needed to feed 9, so I added two cans of diced tomatoes, another can of pinto beans, about two more cups of water (and accompanying masa, and additional chili powder, oregano, and cumin to taste. It fed 9 perfectly! I just read the review below though and I think beef broth would've been better than water for flavor.

Best beef chili I've ever made. Followed advice of other reviewers and added diced onion to ground beef while simmering. Also, increased the amount of garlic a little and added canned diced tomatoes. Used beef broth instead of water to thin while cooking. Served with light source cream and freshly grated sharp cheddar. Was even better heated up the next day!

Very good chili recipe! I read the reviews about it being dry and I added the following and it had a perfect consistency: I added 1 can (14.5 oz diced tomatoes, 1 can (14.5 oz corn, 2 (6 oz cans of diced green chilies, and 1/2 cup water. Then I let it simmer for an hour. Never had to add any more liquid. Very tasty
