This soup is absolutely delicious and just what I was looking for in a chicken tortilla soup! I have noticed that a lot of the recipes on this site for the dish are loaded with cumin and other spices, which is typically not what a traditional tortilla soup tastes like.

I suggest including all of the ingredients- someone mentioned that they skipped the lime and didn't miss it, but it's more than just a wedge. The lime juice adds great flavor, although I would maybe do just 1.5 limes instead of the two. I also think I'll make it with a little more chicken next time, about 1.25 lbs instead of the approximate 1 lb I used this time. Also, I think only 1 Tablespoon instead of 2 is sufficient for the oil.

Great recipe- I hope to entertain with this one!

Loved this soup - my husband thought it tasted just like the soup from a local restaurant! I added a can of mexican corn and replaced the jalepenos with a can of diced tomatoes with green chiles. I also added a cup of quick cooking barley after the chicken was done, it added a nice touch. I didn't have any limes, but didn't miss them. Thanks for a great recipe!

This soup is absolutely delicious and has quickly become our family favorite. The warm blend of flavors is excellent and then adding that cool bit of avacado is amazing! To save time I used a purchased roasted chicken. I replaced the jalepenos with canned green chiles. Thank you, Danny, for giving me a crowd pleaser that I can count on every time.

I made this soup with pinto beans instead of black beans, and I used 1/2 of a grocery store rotisserie chicken instead of the chicken breasts (because it was cheaper. The soup was amazing. I love the heat.

I added roasted corn, this soup is light with tons of flavor. I also add fresh green onions on top at the end.

This was surprisingly good. I am not a soup person, but I may change my mind after this one. It goes well with a side of cornbread too! It was quick and easy to make

Loved this recipe! I remember watching Danny do this on TV and I thought--I have got to try that! Well, tonight was the night and I am SO glad I gave it a try. Actually, if you use the cheese in moderation (and we used blue corn chips instead of tortillas, this is a lowfat good-for-you recipe. So good on a cool fall evening. This will definitely go into my rotation of meals.

I seeded one of my jalapenos but not the other...I didn't want too much heat! Turned out perfectly!
