If you heat up the milk and the cream with the spices first and let it reduce before putting in the sweet potato slices, then it's not runny. Once you reduce the sauce, put the sweet potatos in the skillet with the sauce and then cover with a lid to ensure that the potatos get cooked. Once they are cooked, ,then put in the baking dish and bake as directed. This process allows the milk/cream sauce to reduce first, then the cover allows the potatos to fully cook without worrying they will get too soft.

    Cheers

We tried this recipe for Thanksgiving. It never thickened and was runny. The taste was very nice with the spices used, but it was very, very runny. No one had seconds.

My husband and I made this tonight for a new twist on sweet potato mash. It was really delicious, it got even better the longer it sat on the stove and cooled. We cannot wait for left overs tomorrow. This was a melt in your mouth side dish that everyone we love!!!!!THis is a keeper for us. We also mixed in a few russet potatoes, since we were short with the sweet and it was a great balance!!!!!! Thamks Irvine, anything is possible :

I made this for my Thanksgiving dinner today. My family LOVED it. It was the dish they raved about it for about an hour. I will definitely be making it again.

I am not a sweet potato person but I thought I would try something new for my first Christmas dinner at my house. This one sounded good and easy to prepare and boy did it come through for me. I had 10 people over for dinner and every single person had seconds and is still talking about the dish. I had to hide some of the leftovers in the back of my fridge so I would have some because everyone wanted to take some home. It is also very good leftover. I will be making this again soon!

This was very easy and soooo good! I made this for a dinner party for 10 people and everyone loved it. I used my food processor to slice up the potatoes the night before; then there was very little work to do right before putting it in the oven. Though the recipe said that typically 12 potatoes will be needed, be sure to weigh your potatoes in the store - mine were so big I only needed 3! Thanks for a great recipe - I will be making again and again.

I served this as a side with a smoked prime rib, got rave reviews even from those that profess to dislike sweet potatoes.

Very easy to prepare, I did the entire recipe in a dutch oven and just transferred from stove top to oven with less mess.
