I've made this reipe alot and every time it is a hit out of the park. I live in Rhode Island and I pair this with the classic Rhode Island clam cake. The best.

This chowder was easy, fast, and delicious. My whole family enjoyed this for dinner. If you want to go through all of the work of shucking clams and deriving your own clam juice and you have time, that's great and I am sure that there is some benefit. But for a Saturday afternoon, when we have just come in from skiing this was awesome.

I added two ribs of celery with the onion, and used cream instead of half and half - I think I created heaven in a bowl

This is an outstanding recipe. I added some chopped celelery and chopped carrots. Also instead of the water I added one bottle of clam nector. I increased the bacon to 8 slices and the half & half to four cups. Family "raved" over this very delicious chowder!

This was my 1st attempt at making Clam Chowder and it was a very easy recipe and quick. Took a bit longer than the recipe describes but I attibute to my less than stellar knife skills. Will definitely make again.

Excellent recipe, very easy to make, and taste great. Now if you have time, go ahead and get fresh clams. This would take about 4-5 lbs of fresh clams to have enough.

I feel that this recipe is perfect for the hard working Americans that watch this network. Not everyone can afford the freshest of ingredients, nor do they have access to them. Chef Irvine's style of cooking fits what most of us have to do on a daily basis. We have to get off work, hit the store (hoping they have what we need in stock, improvise when needed and pull off a satisfying tasty meal. To assume that showing a recipe with canned products is a bad thing is to admit that you are above the majority of Americans. Those of us in the majority try to use fresh when we can, but use what we can afford when we can't. Keep the good recipes coming.

i have made clam chowder with canned clams many times. it doesnt make a difference if you use fresh or not. also i love this recipe because it is realistic. i can go anywhere and get these ingredients. and that comment about losing respect for food network is uncalled for, this man is a great cook. and if he could make simple recipies that still taste great, im very happy with him. i love his show tooo!

Actually, if you made the recipe it really wasn't bad, and in actuality, not everyone lives near an ocean or can afford to buy the freshest ingredients, ESPECIALLY through these tough economic times. I find most often, that many of the food network shows and recipes include ingredients that I cannot afford to buy let alone find! So excuse me if I'm being rude...but give the rest of us "broke folk" a break!
