This is very different from the way I usually make oatmeal, and now I see what I've been missing all these years. I followed the recipe precisely, with only one exception: I chopped the apple finely rather than grating it. All of the proportions are perfect. The oatmeal has just the right amount of sweetness, the right amount of salt. . .it's delicious, and so wholesome and nourishing. Do try this drizzled with heavy cream, as suggested at the end of the recipe. Since there is no butter in this oatmeal, I find that the cream plays a vital role. It adds a special touch of richness that makes the oatmeal more luxurious and satisfying.
