We enjoyed this very much but will make the following changes next time: I will cut up the acorn squash into 1" pieces and keep the sweet potatoes in 2" pieces because the sweet potatoes became a bit mushy and the squash too hard; I will not leave the chicken on top and will stir it in after about 1 hour of cooking. I liked the orange flavor very much. I didn't detect the maple taste although I could smell it.
Added treat: We'd made an Almond Wild Rice recipe (from Birds and Blooms Magazine in a www.countrystorecatalog.com insert brochure which I've added below and served that with this meal and it was delicious!!!!
Almond Wild Rice (we made 1/2 recipe but here's the full recipe as in the brochure
    5-1/2 cups chicken broth (divided
    1 cup golden raisins
    6 tablespoons butter (divided
    1 cup uncooked wild rice
    1 cup uncooked brown rice
1 cup slice or slivered almonds
1/2 cup minced fresh parsley (we didn't use this
    1/4 tsp salt
    1/4 tsp pepper

In small saucepan, bring 1/2 cup broth to boil. Remove from head; add raisins & set aside (do not drain. In a large saucepan, bring 3 cups of broth & 2 T of butter to a boil. Add wild rice; cover & simmer 55-60 min. or until rice is tender (drain if necessary. Meanwhile, in another pan, combine brown rice, 2 T butter & remaining broth. Bring to boil. Reduce heat; cover & shimer for 35-40 min. or until rice is tender (drain if necessary In a skillet, saute almonds in remaining buitter until lightly browned. In a serving bowl, combine cooked wild & brown rice, raisin mixture, almonds, parsley, salt & pepper. Yield 10 servings.

After reading other reviews and seeing that the veggies got too soggy, I decided to only make the chicken. I cooked it on low for about 7 hours. The chicken was very dry, even though there was a ton of juice from the broth. The flavor was awful...way to orangy. My daughter that usually eats anything wouldn't eat the chicken after one bite.

i do not use my slow cooker frequently, but this recipe looked tasty so i tried. maybe my inexperience is the reason for the results, but i was not enamoured with the dish. i used chicken breast, which turned out dry, and the recommended veggies, which were complete mush. i will not attempt this dish again.

I used boneless, skinless thighs instead of breasts, but I otherwise followed the recipe and cooked on high. The sweet potatoes and squash completely feel apart, but the chicken was nicely tender. Overall the texture was mushy and the only flavor that stood out was sweet. I will not make it again.

The orange does not marry well with the chicken and vegetables. Sweet goes with the squash and potatoes, but not orange. There was to much liquid. I attempted to make a gravy out of it. The vegetables were good. That was the best part.

The nice tangy-sweet flavor left my husband asking if we had enough left over for tomorrow night as well!

I haven't made this recipe but I did watch the show it was prepared on. On the original show the acorn squash was NOT peeled so if you want to try this recipe save yourself some time and do not peel the acorn squash as the recipe on-line says.

When, I read the disappointing reviews I wondered how bad could chicken get, but yes, it is bad. I would never make this again. I did do what another reviewer recommended and made some brown rice to go with this. That saved dinner. The vegetables turned into mush even though I cut extra large pieces to avoid that. My family did not care for the taste combinations at all. I ended up with a PB & J that night. It was so bad that I was planning on making the white chicken pizza that goes with this and I ended up throwing out the left overs and baking new chicken for the pizza.

I followed the recipe to a tee. Took over 1/2 hour to peel the potatoes and squash. Very strong flavor, Sweet Potatoes, and Acorn squash went to Mush it was like mashed squashed Sweet potates with Leeks, Something was very strong, Chicken (bone in was dry except for one piece, Chicken had a nice taste but the rest was over powered, I doubt I will make it again
