Very tasty. I, like many of the others here, added more spice to taste. My family likes it spicy so we used more than double the cayenne and also added red pepper flakes. Additionally I used V8 Spicy instead of tomato juice. The whole family loved it. Thanks!

This recipe turned out excellent with only a couple of modification. First, I bumped up the spices. If it called for 1 tsp I added 1 1/2 tsp, etc. Second, I browned the meat and briefly sauted the veggies (except for the okra first. Since I preferred a one-pot dinner, I added the uncooked rice about 2 hours before it was done (cooking on low but that is entirely optional. Tastes wonderful!

I changed the recipe a bit and made it my own. I call it 'gumbo style soup'. its no gumbo though.

Iwas not impressed with this recipe'. I wanted a gumbo recipe' I could prepare in a crock pot that tasted something close to the gumbo I prepare the old fashioned way with a roux. I prepared this recipe' for a church chili/soup cook off and was ashamed to take it. It is an easy recipe' but just not tasty. It needs something.

I've made this as part of the three meals in 30 minutes thing twice now. It gets RAVE REVIEWS from the whole family. We prefer ours a little soupier, so I increase the tomato and broth to 3 cups each, also I substitute 1/2 red pepper flakes for the cayenne pepper (I like it spicy!. The pot was cleaned both times!

Poor flavor. All the spices cancel each other out.

I prepared this slow-cooker chicken gumbo as a Fat Tuesday treat for my husband and I. It was easy to make and very tasty. I will make it again and will happily serve it to family and friends. I can't imagine throwing out something so yummy.

It may be good, but should not be called gumbo! not even close to real gumbo.

This is soup. Gumbo has a roux. Not using the whole chicken leaves out a lot of flavor. Too many "spices", not the ones you need for gumbo. Traditionally, gumbo made with okra & tomatoes is more Creole. Better with shrimp than chicken.
