I saw this on tv last week and despite the less than stellar ratings decided to try it! I made it exactly as the recipe stated and bland is an understatement- it did smell good- 1/2 hour before serving I checked it and decided it was tooooo bland! I added 4 tbsp dijon mustard and some lawrys seasoning salt (2 tbsp-it was that flavorless! It jazzed it up enough to eat- but the apples were more like applesauce- I will not make it again- i love to play with recipes and use recipes more as a guideline- rarely do I follow a recipe in order- I'm not sure this one could be saved! Oh- the chicken was very moist!

I made this recipe the day after seeing it on television. I basically made it per the recipe except that I braised my chicken pieces before putting them in the crock pot. Since I almost always use garlic I seasoned my chicken pieces with S&P and garlic as well. I did use the apples but they totally cooked away and I even cut them in thick slices. Next time I make this I will still add the apple but perhaps just slice in quarters. I had company for dinner and they too loved it. A simple meal to put together.

Sometimes Robin's recipes are small portions for my family, so I doubled the onions and apples, used two green and two red apples, added sliced garlic cloves.

I replaced the chicken stock and cream of celery canned soup with 1/2 cup of apple juice (no sugar added

So, I just used my mandolin, sliced the onions and apples and garlic into the pan. put salt and pepper on the chicken, layered it on top of the veggies. Then I just poured apple juice over the top.

OH MY GOSH. I couldn't believe we ate the whole thing, though I thought I had made enough for lunch the next day.

    LOVE IT!

I read all the previous comments and changed a few things. I added extra rosemary, some garlic and lemon zest. I also added some corn starch near the end of cooking to thicken the liquid. The chicken just fell apart and the apples got mushy. I ended up throwing the rice into the crock pot with the chicken/apple goo and served it as a thick "soup"ish thing. I didn't even finish what I served myself and threw out all the leftovers. Don't make this.

it smelled amazing...looked amazing.....the taste was disappointing. the flavors were too subtle and overall it was just too moist--the consistency and textures were all the same--wet...the chicken was moist though! (but what else do you expect when it's in a slow cooker

This was a great meal! This was my first time using my crockpot and I will definitely continue to use it! I did change somethings... I used a can of cream of mushroom, and used a whole can of cream of celery! I only used a half a cup of chicken broth and added 1/4 cup of dry white wine! I also added some garlic and butter! I left the skin on the applesm I used a Gala and a Granny Smith! The skin stayed on most of the apples, which made the dish look very colorful! I cooked it on high for 2 and half hours and the chicked was so tender! I would like ot try it with mash potatoes next time!

I made this for my family last Friday and they loved it -- even my dad who is an amazing cook. It was a very warming and winter-y dish and made my apartment smell delicious! i will definitely be make this again. I think I might even use an extra apple next time!

My husband and I loved this. However, it didn't take as long to cook!

found this recipe very bland and visualy unappetizing! didnt have celery so i made it with mushroom soup which i did not think would be a deal breaker. i even added a little sugar for the apples as suggested. sorry to say but it went in the trash. who ever made this and had it turn out well must have truely doctored it up. avoid this one. there has to be another recipe you can make tonight.

I read all of the comments on here and decided to try the recipe as is before, and I thought it was fantastic. I was skeptical about the apples, but they add a lot of flavor, and the whole thing was delicious!
