This looks delicious but I am wondering if anyone has tried to make this recipe using a 9x13 pan. I would like to serve it for a party and the high layer cake would not work as well as the pan cake. Any thoughts out there?

recipe called fr t much powered sugar. I only used 2 cups, & that was more than enpough. Is there a mistake in the recipe perhaps?

This cake was not only easy to make but it was also moist and delicious! However instead of the 3 layers I only made 2.

There was also LOTS of icing left over, so I might suggest even cutting all of the ingredients in half when making it.

i'm not a box cake cook; i'm a bake-all-day-using-most-exotic-ingredients-and-hardest-techniques-possible cook. yet i decided to try this little dessert. husband says it's the best dessert i've ever made; neighbors agreed wholeheartedly. not a crumb left. we don't like desserts with alcohol, so i just made a plain white box cake, omitting the rum. for the icing, i did substitute 3 T rum for the extract because i didn't have any on hand. results were fantastic. who woulda thunk?

Absolutely delicious and moist with an insanely rich, fudge-like textured frosting. Really easy too. Have a good quality dark rum on hand for best results.

I froze my cakes the week before and they turned out very moist. Warning: The icing is RICH! But very yummy. My guests all claimed they only wanted a taste but went back for seconds!

I thought the color would improve when I started adding ingredients but it never did. The cake tasted chemically and the rum didn't come through with the extract.

Thanks again Sandra for making an easier version of caramel cake. Works great when I need a cake in a pinch. I love to bake, but sometimes have to show up with a great dessert and don't have lots of time to make it.So your recipes really fit the bill.Really like your party styles-great ideas!

This cake was super simple and a total hit at my mother-in-law's birthday party. Everyone wanted the recipe. As for the below comment about Sandra leaving out the caramel...yeah, the brown sugar/butter base IS the caramel...surprised you didn't know that. I didn't have extra frosting because I went ahead and frosted the sides, but if you do have extra, you could make graham cracker sandwiches (a favorite when I was a kid or, GASP, just throw it out. I don't know why everybody gives Sandra such a hard time. I LOVE her. She makes realistic meals for real people who don't have hours to slave in the kitchen. Be NICER, people.
