This dish is delicious, easy to prepare, and versitile. If I know someone likes a hot chili, I use a hot spice pkg and vice versa. This is the chili recipe I have been waiting for. Thanks

I like thicker chili's so this is a recipe that is perfect for me. It doesn't mention it but make sure your crock pot is at least 6 quarts. I tried making it in a smaller crock pot and it bubbled over the pot and down between the pot and the heating element.

I made this chili for my family and they all liked it. It makes a lot of chili, and would be good for a party. I will definately make it again.

This chili was not bad, not bad at all, but much too runny. It would have been even worse if I had not drained the 80/20 hamburger that I use after browning it.
The canned diced tomatoes come with a fair amount of liquid anyhow, and there certainly didn't seem to be any need to add the water (or beef broth, which is what I used instead. I didn't use tomato paste, but that wouldn't have made any difference.
I didn't use any chili spice packs; added my own seasonings, but clearly not enough. I think that for crockpots, you (or at least I need to add noticeably more in order to get the same "bite."
I -will- make it again, but mostly if I want to have something ready for me when I get home after work. Otherwise, it's just as easy to brown the meat (which is the most actively time-consuming part in a Dutch oven, toss in the beans and tomatoes and spices, and just let it simmer on the stove. (Although I don't know whether it is more energy-efficient to let something cook in a crockpot for all day or to let it sit on a stove for an hour or so.

I couldn't find the diced tomatoes with jalepenos, so I just bought the regular diced tomatoes and chopped up a small, fresh jalepeno. My husband loves it and we'll be adding it to our recipe collection as a regular. Very easy to make.

Very good chili, and that's coming from someone who doesn't particularly like chili! As with another reader I could not find tomatoes w/ jalepeno, so I used t. with garlic & onion..worked out fine. And the recipe makes a ton of chili, so you'll have plenty for a crowd or have some to freeze. My only complaint with the recipe is that I could not fit all the ingredients into the crock pot. But that was OK, I just dumped everything in a (big! sauce pan and let it simmer for about 30 - 40 minutes. Way to go Sandra!

Easy, great tasting, and good for you....what more could one ask for? I make almost everything from "scratch" and have been cooking for over 30 yrs., even catering a number of functions. My friends and family call me "chef". However, even the best cooks need a "break" now and then. That's why I made my first Sandra Lee recipe. After making 20 "elegant"(and labor intensive meals in the past 3 weeks, I decided to try something "semi-homemade. I'm glad I did. This is very good and all ages will enjoy it. I put this in my "permanent file".
