The cheese inside was gooey and absolutely delicious! The ale flavor really put it over the top for me.

Sandra from Cambridge Mass - If you do YOUR research, you will see that a compote, although traditionally made with fruit, is made with other items as well. Compote isn't referencing the actual fruit, it's talking about the way something is cooked as well. When you make a compote, you are slow-simmering an item in a syrup. The most common syrup used is water, sugar, and spices. Now, if you actually look at Sandra's recipe, her onion compote, is made just like that. Compote's can be served warm or cold. These boards are for commenting on the food. And, before you go and make a statement, I would suggest a little researching yourself. The burger was WONDERFUL! I did use beef stock vs. beer because I didn't have any on hand. It was really good. I do want to try it next time with the beer though.

I enjoyed these burgers very much. I usually do same but w/A-1 sauce but beer worked great also. I am doing meatloaf in 2 days. The compote was GREAT and I plan on using this in many applications and expanding it. As far as the negative comments I think that some did not cook recipe. Like I said the compote was great. Thinking outside the box is why I watch food network. Thank you Sandra.

These burgers were some of the best I have ever made. Thanks for the great recipe. My wife still can't believe there was beer in the burgers! LoL

I never write reviews - about anything, but these burgers were so good, I just had to. Hi Charlene in Brooklyn - not too many of us with that name. Anyway my husband and I enjoyed these burgers so much that we never got to tmaking he meatloaf. We just kept making the burgers. I topped mine with green olives. Sounds a little weird, but the tangy with the sweet onion compote just put me in heaven. We used sharp cheddar for the cheese - yum. The onions didn't taste like beer, they tasted like a warm, smooth burgundy wine. Outstanding - we will make this again.

I am not a big fan of beer or beef burgers but, when she made the delicious looking red onion compote on today's show, I decided to go for it and make the burgers as well. I was not disappointed at all! They were so moist and flavorful. I substituted some Lawry's seasoning salt, onion and garlic powder for the grill seasoning and it worked out well. I cooked the burgers on a small electric countertop grill and they looked and tasted like they came off the outdoor grill. The onion compote I could eat by itself on some crusty bread. It is so HEAVENLY!!! I haven't made the meatloaf yet, so stayed tuned, fellow Sandra fans.
Also, stop hating on her, you haters. For people like me who don't have lots of time or lots of money for the oh-so-fresh out of the garden ingredients, I appreciate her use of canned/packaged foods and money saving ideas. I am definitely all about stretching my food dollars for my family.
Thanks Sandra, for all that you do. Keep up the creative work! God bless you.
