First of all, compotes are made from fruit which an onion is not. The only other type of compote involves rabbit or pigeon meat... I tried the onion with ice cream and it was terrible. Why take cooking advice from someone who has no knowledge of basic cooking terms or money-saving advice from someone with zero research skills. If her previous show hadn't been the worst cooking show ever filmed, I might consider this an epic fail. Instead, it is just pathetic. I have stopped trusting all Food Network chefs because the entire network must have no understanding of cooking or taste if they allow this woman to be anything but a cautionary tale.

My family LOVED these burgers. I was able to make 5 burgers with the same amount of meat, and no one was left hungry. My cheese didn't stay in the middle, but, truthfully this burger doesn't need cheese. They were so moist and tasty. The onion compote was divine, and I was skeptical about it, not being a huge fan of red onions. My daughter even liked the onion compote and she hates all onions. I would definitely recommend this burger and will certainly make it again! Will be making the meatloaf tomorrow, hope it is as big of a hit.

The recipe is okay as far as burgers go, but I don't understand why a recipe for burgers has me make twice as much as I need in order to have leftovers for a meal I'm not making. Why not specify that the recipe as written actually makes eight burgers and that you can make a totally different recipe with the same mixture?

These burgers were very tasty for how simple they were to make. Mine fell apart a little bit, I would definitely suggest adding an egg as a binder. I think it would also be better with more cheese. I would like to try using blue cheese next time. The onion compote was a nice change. I like the taste of onions so I prefer fresh. I know some people do not like a strong onion taste so the compote would be great for them. The meatloaf jsut came out of the oven so I will review that next. Thanks Sandra for the recipes!

The cheese makes all the difference., I liked the onions but prefer raw on my burgers. I did add miracle whip to the buns. To Stephanie, 3 pounds of meat were for 2 meals at 1 1/2 pounds per meal, I'd say that's a decent amount of meat for 4 burgers and meatloaf.

Responding to Stephanie's remark: You need to read the recipe! Three pounds of gound beef is for TWO recipes - half for the burgers and the other half for Round Two meatloaf. I made the burgers and compote today and my whole family thinks it was very good. The cheese inside the burger is now our preference.

3 pounds of ground beef for 4 servings? By the time you pay a cardiologist and the ER bill for a heart attack you aren't saving a dime.

Sandy are you aware that everything you advocate on this program is the antithesis of what you said on your other show?

    Credibility: Zero.
