I've just discovered the Semi-Homemade series and it suits my lifestyle to a T.
What is nice is that I can read reviews and see all the different spins people have put on this recipe. That's the beauty of cooking; meals can re-invent themselves quite easily. I'm going to try this with some type of cranberry addition and see what develops.

As this is a "semi-homemade" series, I don't expect the final product to taste like it would if I made from scratch. I'm satisfied if it simply tastes good. But I'm extremely happy you all pointed out that the sauce requires 2 packets of Dream Whip. I did not catch that....

Regarding the sauce, I eliminate all that fuss by just serving it with Apple Cinnamon ice cream, a flavor that's sold bya company in my local stores; may not be available everywhere but it worked for me.

I hope to see more "timesaver" recipes.

Though I love Sandra Lee's table scape ideas; so many of her recipes get bad reviews? Why is that? It is a pattern with most of her recipes.

my gilfriend hates bread pudding, I made this she loved it. Nuff said. although i increased bake time 5 minutes and substituted cinnamon pbread for cinnamon raisen bread.

It was pretty good, with a few modifications, and very easy to prepare! I took the suggestion of a viewer and used 1 tsp vanilla and only 1/2 tsp of rum extract in the pudding, otherwise I think it will be way too overpowering. I also used a 1/4 tsp vanilla and 1/4 tsp rum extract for the sauce. To make a flavored whipped cream as a topping rather than a "sauce", I used an 8 oz. tub of Cool Whip instead of the packet stuff and mixed the other stuff in that. Thanks for all your quick semi-homemade stuff and tips, Sandra.

Much too sweet. Did not care for the sauce at all. My guests, too, were not thrilled. Back to Betty Crocker.

Sorry, but I did not like this at all. I did not like the pudding, it had too much apple in it, I did not really like the appearance of it nor the overall taste. It did not taste like the bread pudding I am use to. Next time I will go the longer route and make it homemade all the way. Not much difference in time.

I made this pudding last nite, after seeing Sandra make it. The pudding tastes good. I agree with other reviewers that the sauce has a chemical like taste. I don't know if it is the dreamwhip or the ginger ale the gives the weird flavor. It doesn't taste too made if you only put a nickle size amount on the pudding. If you put too much on it would be horrible. I think a vanilla flavored topping would taste better.

This was wonderful! It has great taste and texture. My husband absolutely LOVED it! The only changes I made were to add 1/4 cup sugar (we like bread pudding on the sweeter side and added 1 tsp cinnamon because we love the spice. I didn't make the topping. I just added some cinnamon to whipped cream. However, my husband didn't even use any because he liked the pudding so much by itself! For those who had it come out mushy you probably didn't cook it long enough; that didn't have anything to do with the recipe. This is excellent!
