I made this last night and WOW it was great! I doubled the recipe to have leftovers. Although, I did not double the canned tomatoes because my husband does not like can tomatoes but as it turned out they melted into the broth (after 5 hours which added great flavor (2 cans may be too strong of tomato taste. I also used a box of Wolfgang Puck's All Natural Beef Broth because the store was out of Campbell's Double Strength Broth. After using Puck's I will never go back to Campbell's...Puck's is so much better and the same price by volume. I used half red potatoes and half yukon gold potatoes because they were the same price per pound...they added great flavor as well as a natural thickener. I also quartered the onions instead of dicing because I love to eat the onions along with the other ingredients. The stew was done exactly in 5 hours on high. I made Marie Callendar's corn bread (from Costco instead of the Beer Biscuits which went perfect with the stew.

Thank you Sandra for a easy and delicious meal!

This is exactly what I've been craving. A simple, basic DELICIOUS beef stew recipe. Prep couldn't be easier and the meat was fall apart tender. Hubby loved it as well, and he's my meat and potato guy so def. a score! I'm trying the "take 2" recipe tomorrow night with the leftovers.

Thanks Sandra for a great money saver!!!

So I tried this recipe today and my husband and I could not stop eatting it. The only thing I changed was I used chicken broth instead of beef broth, only because that is what I had. We had to add more salt than we probably would have otherwise. It didn't seem like there was enough liquid at first, but it did in the end. The meat was tender and the vegetables were cooked perfectly!!!!!! I have been sick with a cold for a few days and this was exactly what I needed to feel better. HIGHLY recommend this recipe!!!!!!! I am going to share it with EVERYONE I know. I bet it would be good if you add frozen corn too.

I'm am just learning to cook and have been watching Food Network to learn new recipes. I was home with our 4 week old and 3 year old and wanted to try a new recipe. I saw this meal on TV and thought it looked easy. I added mushrooms and would suggest cutting the veggies a bit smaller. But overall it was wonderful! I will definitely cook this again!!!

I made this stew on Sunday and I loved it. I'm not a big fan of hot/spicy so I omitted the hot sauce and I also don't like raw meat tossed into a pot so I coated the meat with flour and browned it first. Instead of a crock pot i cooked it over low heat for two hours and the meat just melted in your mouth. The thyme is the perfect seasoning for this beef stew. Next time I'm going to make the biscuits because they sound great.

I just wanted to read the reviews to decide wheather or not to make this dish. Apparently I have to post something before I can read them. So, here is my post. No idea if this is any good or not.

I watch the show mainly for ideas, but I have tried several recipes and generally like them - although I do not like adding garlic with onions as it usually turns bitter. I was disappointed with this recipe as she demonstrated it differently on the show then on the actual recipe and overall it lacked flavor. I will try the round two shepard's pie with my leftover stew.

Eeeks.....kind of bland. I followed recipe to a tee before tasting. After tasting, I added a tablespoon brown sugar. I'd rather make my slow-cooker stew with onion soup mix, add mushrooms and some good red wine; guess I like more "body" to my stew. BUT, for a really 'light' stew...this is it.
