I didn't follow this recipe to the T - just more or less used my regular way of making stew - but used the Meat Loaf seasoning and Semi-sweet Choc pieces (1TBS but not the mushrooms.
I simmered it on the stove in a dutch oven for an hour (meat/sauce, then added carrots, celery and russet potatoes for another 30 minutes. YUMMY!
The sauce was delicious. What a difference the chocolate makes.

I was looking for a nice stew recipe and after looking several ones, this one called my attention because the chocolate and how easy it sounded. We don't have a slow cooker so we used a dutch oven and cooked in low heat. It only took five hours, and actually I think next time a would leave it 1/2 hour less to keep more of the juices. Chocolate was just fantastic! I gave it a great color, texture and flavor. I think we are just not use to have chocolate like this, but it actually works great! Love it! and definitely will make it again, and again....

i made this for dinner this week and it was a huge hit. i loved all the flavors that came out of this dish and it was so easy to make. first night we had it i just served it was rolls for a good juice that came in the stew. when we had the left overs the next night i served it over noodles. i loved it even more. just have to say i didnt use the mushrooms but i am not a fan of them but i think the stew turned out great anyways.

I tried this out. I followed everything except for the chocolate, it turned out very flavorful and satisfying. My wife loved it!
