Ingredients

  • 1 quart buttermilk
  • 2 (1.6-ounce) packs buffalo wing seasoning
  • 1/4 cup hot sauce
  • 4 pounds chicken wing drummettes
  • Blue cheese dressing, for dipping (recommended: Bob's Big Boy)
  • Cucumbers, cut into 1/4-inch slices

Directions

In a large bowl, stir together buttermilk, wing seasoning, and hot sauce. Add drummettes and be sure all are coated. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate at least 3 to 4 hours, preferably overnight.

Set up grill for direct cooking over medium-high heat. Oil grate when ready to start cooking. Remove wings from refrigerator and let sit at room temperature for 30 minutes. Grill 12 to 18 minutes, turning occasionally, ending with skin-side down.

Serve with ranch dressing, celery sticks, and cucumber slices.

INDOOR: Prepare wings as directed. Preheat broiler. Place wings on foil lined baking sheet or broiling pan. Broil 15 to 20 minutes turning occasionally or until cooked.

I am only rating on the marinade. This was my first attempt of making wings and my husband couldn't stop raving! He even posted a picture to FB because he was so excited to share. I soaked the wings in the buttermilk and I believe that made them very tender. I used a different Sandra Lee recipe for the cooking method and baked them covered with foil. Then my adventurous husband talked me into making 4 sauces! We used one Sandra Lee sauce, sweet chili sauce, Sunny Anderson's honey bbq (my fav, Claire Robinson's dry rub from her bbq chicken, and a traditional Frank's Hot sauce. The sweet chili sauce didn't have enough heat for my hubby so he mixed in Frank's and loved it. If you don't have a grill you can definetily still make them in the oven.

Anyone have a homemade substitute for 'Buffalo Wings Seasoning'? I get headaches from pre-made seasonings, especially the envelope-style ones Sandra relies on. Probably shouldn't try this recipe.
