I love the idea of making something from scratch, I had all the ingredients on hand already. I made the bread mix from her recipe, it makes 6 cups but you only need 2; she needs to modify this. The only thing I changed from the original recipe was that I added extra pumpkin spice. Even though the directions don't state when to add the sugar I just used common sense and added it with the other ingredients. I used a glass pan, so that may make a difference. After 4 hours the cake was done, actually taking it out 20 mins earlier may have prevented it from being a bit dry. The cake wasn't horrible, it's good enough to eat. Next time I will add even more pumpkin spice & sugar. The swirl looked cool but I was the only one that could see it, next time I'll use dark brown sugar instead. Yesterday I was baking cookies, the crockpot gave me the option of having another oven. I love to tweak recipes and this one has a great foundation to work from.

I would like to share that I have tried to cook many of Sandra Lee's recipes and all of them worked wonderfully! Some of them became my favorites. Especially, red velvet cake bars... Yammie! I have never tried any of her slow-cooker recipes but I would like to respond to negative comments on this page by encouraging others to try some of her ideas. They are wonderful and unique! In the cake of this cake, I do not see a reason to wait so long for a cake to be cooked... It is kinda of silly to use a slow-cooker for baking in this instance. At least, Sandra Lee in this episode did not explain the advantages of this way to cook a banana spice cake in a slow-cooker.

I really enjoy watching Sandra Lee, I think she makes cooking seem fun. I love the ideal of semi-homemade.
Although I have not made this recipe because the title sounds really good, but 8 hours is wayyyyyy to long to wait for cake.

Sandra Lee is probably one of the worst cooks on the Food Network Channel. Rarely do her recipes ever receive 5 stars. The only reason that she is on is her pretty face ! This recipe is a disaster as are most of hers, none of which I ever make any more.

I followed the recipe carefully made her baking mix I made the foil ring. I even have the same exact crock pot. After 4hours it was raw. So I decided to go with the 8 that it says on the printed recipe. After 7 I checked it again. One side and part of the bottom was burnt. The rest seems ok. The rest appears to be very moist and ok.
I don't know how I could have prevent this. The rest of it seems like its perfect. So it seems there's a hotter place in the crock pot. I read all the bad comments before I began and wanted to see what happened hoping I'd have success. I think this needs more work. I love the crock pot idea but something needs to be done to insure success.

I've been burned by Sandra's meals in the past; but this was an intriguing idea, so I gave it a try. The bread was heavy and unflavorful. What a waste of perfectly good ingredients!

I took a chance that the baking mix was just something like Bisquick and that worked really well but was confusing at first. Maybe if the recipe stated to the side Bisquick or something similar. I did have a problem with my loaf pan being too big for my crockpot. The top of my cake melded to the the paper towels and tore off in the baking process. The cake was still pretty good though. I think I'll try this one again and make my foil ring flatter to accomodate my bigger loaf pan.

I agree with Kimblyn, this is the worst bread i've ever made.
    No money saved here.
Her beef pot roast was confusing too,she needs a better writer.

I just made this cake, however the loaf pan I had was too big to fit into the slow cooker. Luckily I had a "disposable" loaf pan which fits inside. I didn't add the sugar as the receipe had it listed but in the directions, it didn't tell me where or when to add the sugar. Well.........hope it comes out ok without the sugar?
