The only issue with this recipe I had with is that it takes much longer than 37 minutes to make these cookies--shaping these things into candy canes was quite time consuming. Also my cookies were really fragile, they all seemed to break at the bend but they taste good so that's always a plus.

The first time I made this recipe the cookies did not have quite the right consistency and texture to twist the dough into candy cane shapes. By the time I made the second batch I realized that I had made an error in proportions to cause the issue with the first batch. MY BAD! This recipe is a lot of fun and easy to make. A great holiday project for kids!

These cookies were great and very easy to make. I split the dough into fourths instead of in half and made half the cookies with peppermint extract and half with almond extract. For the peppermint ones, I used 1/4 teaspoon of the extract, and the cookies came out with the perfect amount of mint flavoring (a little more wouldn't hurt, though. For the almond cookies, I used a little more than 1/4 teaspoon of the extract, and the cookies were good but with little almond flavor.
The only downside to these cookies is that, while soft when fresh from the oven, the cookies quickly become hard as they cool. I prefer soft cookies, but I suppose this is a small trade off for how easy these cookies are to make. And just a side note, I refrigerated the dough before I made the cookies because it was a little sticky. After leaving it in the fridge for 10-30 minutes, the dough was perfect--not sticky at all.

I was a little disappointed. Although the recipe didn't suggest it, if I were to make them again I would probably refrigerate the shaped cookies before baking in hopes they wouldn't spread out quite as much. The flavor was nothing spectacular.

Decided yesterday to make these for collegues in work along with some gingerbread men...figured that the receipe was labelled as easy, and would only take about 30mins to make....errr how wrong can a person be...I ended up baking for what seemed like an eternity!
To be honest I think it went wrong, as I'm in Ireland and the stores over here don't sell sugar cookie mix, so I had to make that first, before I could even attempt to proceed onto this receipe.. (don't get me started on my hunt for peppermint extract!
Anywho...made them, and not quite the photo friendly cookies shown on the website...but they look festive and my collegues seem to like the look of them.
Think it may go a little better the second time, now that I know what I'm doing :

I had really good results with this recipe. The time forming the candy canes was worth it in the end when I saw them being devoured at my work holiday party! They turned out fluffy and very tastay, not too much peppermint flavor. Thanks for a great recipe!

My cookies looked more like Christmas stockings than candy canes. I bought 2 cookie mixes, cream cheese, and food coloring plus incidentals that cost about $20.00.
