Crust was not crispy, flavorful or stick well to the cube steak. Will not be making this again. Would rather spend the time on making something good not semi home made.

My hubby and I loved it. I was looking for something different tired of the some old same old. I used the regular ranch dressing mix and the homestyle brown gravy and it was very good!!!! I have a new fav dish now.

I'm from the south and we can season and fry some steak, but I thought, ranch, that might be pretty good. Definitely not my favorite, or my 4yr sons. It tasted a little sour, it may have been that your actually frying ranch dressing. The gravy, not so good, too thin and tasteless. Chicken stock instead of water is always a great secret weapon in pretty much anything.

I've been wanting to make chicken fried steak for awhile, but was scared of making some soggy bland piece of meat - not the case here! The breading had great flavor and the gravy was the best I've ever had! I used buttermilk ranch dressing packets instead of garlic ranch, which worked perfectly with all the buttermilk in the recipe. My only suggestion? Don't use the bag for coating with the flour. That just turned out to be a huge mess. I'll use a pie plate next time! :

I was reluctant to try this recipe but decided to give it a try with venison cutlets. The meat was very good. The seasonings from the ranch dressing worked well to mask the gaminess of the meat. But, do not make this gravy. It tastes like it came from a package---and the aftertaste sticks in the back of your throat. Yuk...

I made this because my husband loves chicken fried steak and I had never made it. I usually don't use packaged mixes or fry things, so I was a little hesitant. It turned out so good. Really way too good, considering how generally unhealthy it is. It was fabulous served with mashed potatoes. I used McCormick's country gravy mix and it tasted great. I loved the tang the buttermilk gave it. Some people said their gravy was bad - bet this varies greatly depending on whose gravy mix you use. I will definitely make this again when I feel like treating myself.

It's a great recipe, however, we didn't like the sour buttermilk. Next time we do this, we'll try using regular milk instead!
