I made this for a blog (http://semi-edible.blogspot.com/ and was okay with it but would never serve this to people. I think the crescent roll was a bad choice of crust. Also, get a chili you like because the Hormel was way too salty for me.

I don't know what to say about this recipe. I made these for a football party and the only one that took more than the one they tried was a 16 year-old boy; most people only took one bite before putting the Chili Cheese Slice politely back on their plate and not taking a second bite. The crescent rolls were way too sweet in contrast with the canned chili, the chili was very boring (i.e. no flavor and kind of yucky and the slices didn't hold up well (soggy and floppy. Too bad, they looked like they'd taste good when watching Sandra make them.

Honestly, why? Why, why, why, why?
When I think of Mexico, I think of cans of hormel chili and bags of pre-shredded cheddar cheese and crescent rolls... who doesn't??
I happened to watch this episode and was amazed by Sandra's vast knowledge of Mexican culture and cooking... of course.
I found this entire episode sort of insulting to Mexican culture. I know the idea is "semi-homemade" but could you think of something else besides using canned chili on top of canned crescent rolls...

My review is mainly for the method because I didn't use chili but some left-over Ropa Vieja and green onions instead of red. Left my can of crescents out too long before I started so they were sticky and hard to handle, not to mention coming out in different shapes. But that was ok. These would be better with chili and/or refried beans. Only problem is I baked the whole recipe and should have frozen most of them because it's just me and they weren't that good warmed over, even with extra cheese.

I haven't been able to shake the craving for these since I saw them on an episode 4 days ago. I have to say, I am not disappointed! I made a few adjustments since I'm trying to watch my weight.

I used reduced fat crescent rolls. They worked just fine and probably even crisped better than the full fat. I don't know if that's true but it makes sense to me :

I made my own chili. Since I wasn't sure how much to make I used 1/2 lb 93% lean ground beef and half a packet of French's Chili-O seasoning. I didn't have a can of tomatoes so I used water and tomato paste then mixed them together and added it to the meat then added the seasoning. I probably used a cup of water. You'll know when it's the right consistancy of chili. It was a little salty for me so I kept adding water and boiling it down a bit.

Once the chili was finished I added half of a medium red onion I had chopped. I mixed that together to put over the slices. If I had olives I would have added that to the chili mix, too. I think it makes it easier spread. I added the shredded sharp cheddar and put it in the oven.

This recipe is definitely a new favorite!

I made these today afterwatching the show yesterday. They came out very good. I used Hormels chili w/beans in a jar, so i could close it and use again.
Tought the crust could have been crisper and next time add more chunks of chili meat to the crust. Will make again.

I wil alos try making these mini pizza's with marinara, and pepperoni!!

Made this with the enchiladas Sandra lee made. Very excellent as a side dish. Also added jalapenos for just a little kick and flavor. Will definitely make again.
