Made the pie Gluten-free, with GF pie crust and Pamela's GF Flour. Not too much what left over from the mixture and as for mixing the chocolate, I allowed it to cool slightly and then tried whisking it together as much as possible. I figured the chocolate would melt again anyways while baking. In the end the pie was great. Taste delicious heated with a little whipped cream.

I haven't tried this recipe and I am not sure I will. Why was this recipe not tested to achieve the proper amount of batter? What is one supposed to do with the leftovers? I expect better than this from a professional kitchen.

I always read the reviews before I decide to make something fom this web site. My mistake was not paying attention to some of them that said to have your cold ingredient's at room temp I thought if I tempered the chocolate that I wouldn't have he clumping problems that other reviewers wrote about. Boy was I wrong. I had to throw everything out and this is not a cheap recipe. I would also like to add that when you watch this video it does not indicate to have some of the ingredients at room temp. sandra please be more expletive in your demonstrations, most of us are not mind readers.

I decided to try this recipe. Pay attention when it says you'll have an extra cup of batter left over. I had a deep pie dish, so I was able to add all of it. It was a little soupy in some areas because of that. My fault though. Overall this recipe was good. It reminded me of an old fashioned pie. Thanks Sandra Lee!

This was absolutely wonderful, and mine came out just like the photo! Here are some recipe hints that may be helpful (to those whose recipe didn't come out quite right: I let the eggs and buttermilk come to room temperature. I combined the sugar mixture first, then the egg mixture, then both together. Oh, and I used 1 1/2 TEASPOONS of vanilla, and I used lowfat buttermilk. THEN I melted the chocolate, and I did it in a microwave, until it was just hot enough to completely melt, but not hot enough to curdle the eggs. I mixed the melted chocolate in with an electric mixer, and I had no "clumping" problems. I had to bake the pie for the full 1 hour and 25 minutes. I let the pie sit for about an hour and a half, then had a piece. It was like eating a fudgy, warm brownie...absolutely wonderful (but VERY rich! It also had the slight "eggy" taste that a few other reviewers mentioned. Next time, I will try medium or regular size eggs (I used jumbo. After a night in the fridge, I tried it cold, and it was still amazing...and the eggy taste was barely noticeable! It was so dense and moist, with a sort of chocolate meringue topping.

This was going to be my first attempt at making a chocolate pie and I wasn't sure if I was going to do this recipe after reading some of the reviews. The reviews about the mixture not coming together really had me worried. But for some reason, I decided to give it a whirl since I had all the ingredients on hand. I think I know what the problem was for the folks who's batter wouldn't come together. In the direction, we are told "With a rubber spatula, stir the melted chocolate into the batter." I started to stir the spatula and immediately knew that it wasn't going to work. Since I had my electric mixer already out I simply used the mixer to blend everything together even though the directions don't say to do that. The pie turned out wonder and I love the crispy topping the pie creates. It is better cold, however.

I make this recipe for Thanksgiving. We have about a pie a person, which equals out to 20 pies, and this pie is always the first one gone. The recipe is super easy and so tasty. I haven't found a better chocolate pie recipe yet!
