I buy chocolate covered cherries at Wal-Mart and take them out of the box and put them on a pretty tray. WALLAH!!! Semi-Homemade candy! All of my friends are always so impressed. I put the empty boxes in my neighbor's trash so no-one suspects that I don't slave in the kitchen for hours over these. Thx!

Maraschino cherries are comprised of heavy sugar syrup, cherries, and red dye. They are nutritionally barren for the most part. Why not pit fresh cherries and coat them in chocolate? You can leave the stems on so they are easy to dip and to pick up and eat. You could even poach them lightly in red or white wine before dipping.

VERY MESSY and really not worth the effort. They weren't terrible, just not very good.

My family suffers from a chronic Red Dye #2 deficiency that sometimes is really debilitating. Marascino cherries are a potent source of Red Dye #2, as well as other chemicals integral to our wellbeing. It breaks my heart to have to force feed my little ones cherries from a jar just to keep up their health, so imagine how DELIGHTED I was to find this recipe for cherries covered in chocolate!! I make this recipe by the quadruple batch and the kids just cannot get enough of them! They look and feel great, thanks to you Sandra. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!
