We had been looking for a good chili recipe to top hot dogs and fries, and I decided to try this one after seeing Sandra make it. It is great. It is exactly the flavor we were hoping for. And if you like it spicy, use the hot chili seasoning packs. Yum.

Chili sauce is basically ketchup, so the "chili" on these "chile dogs" is ketchup with a seasoning packet added to it. So it's no wonder that it tasted pretty terrible. Chili dogs taste better with canned chili than with this sauce.

I ordered Heinz chili sauce over the internet because I couldn't find it in my regular grocery store. It was really sweet and made for terrible chili. If this is what Coney Island dogs taste like then I have to rethink my vacation plans. I would rather have a plain hot dog on a bun than another one of these.

We LOVE this recipe AND it is as good as the old "made from scratch" family recipe from "back in the day" which has to simmer for 2 hours! (I do, however, add a small "pinch" of sugar. We also use Hebrew National Weiners which have a unique, delicious flavor and seem to compliment the Chili Sauce perfectly!

It goes great over the hot dogs or it's good by itself too!

Is to make real chili and use it instead. Chili sauce = KETCHUP and that's all you taste here.

I wouldn't change a thing about this recipe except to maybe add some peppers on top.
