I don't usually like French Onion soup which is strange because I love onions.
I made this recipe for my daughter who loves FOS. I slow cooked it overnight for 8 hours and then left it on warm for 4 more hours. My husband, daughter and I loved it. I can't wait to make it again. I sent the recipe to a lot of my friends and the ones that made it the way I did, loved it too.

I found this recipe to be very easy and good. After reading the reviews before starting, I carmelized the onions first so that they wouldn't be crunchy. The soup tastes amazing. I just love that it was so easy and delicious!!

I've never really learned to make soups, so I approached this with some trepidation. It was so easy I thought it would be a bust. But, it was great! Rich flavor and quick to get going. Perfect for a cold or rainy day.

This was on par with any French Onion Soup we've ever tasted. LOVED IT!!!! The only thing we changed was adding an extra tablespoon of flour. Also note that the wine took a lot longer to reduce than expected (about 15 minutes. I used a cabernet because I wanted the strong flavor of the wine. Remember to use low sodium broth!

My husband said it was the best he ever ate. I used a lot of onions and did caramelize them first. Be sure to use the low sodium product to avoid excess salt. I think it is very, very good and will certainly make it again and again.

this was soooo simple and better than restraunt soup. I used the alt. directions for baking the bread in the oven then placing it on the soup, it was great!!

I looove french onion soup, but this soup was not so good. The broth was tasty, but the onions were not soft enough for me.

I didn't have any consomme on hand, so I just used 1 can of beef broth, a small and a large box of beef stock. I also used cheddar instead of Gruyere, only because that's what was in the fridge. The soup made my apartment smell great and it was very delicious!
