I've been making this for several years, and every time we have a family dinner I'm asked to make it. The only changes I've made are to use more of the bacon grease when cookingyou th onions and to mix in the bacon instead of throwing it away

After seeing Sandra’s holiday show, I decided to make this for Thanksgiving yesterday, discounting other reviewers who said the dish was too salty. This is NOT the case. I actually even added a little additional salt at the end before serving. Instead, what I will do next time is lightly salt the beans and peas while they are cooking, seasoning in layers. The cognac adds a wonderful sweetness and depth to the dish. My guests raved about this one. In fact, it was almost the star of Thanksgiving. It’s a different twist on the usual green side. Flavorful, inexpensive to make, quick to prepare, and even a bit elegant, this will be a part of my menu for many holidays to come.

If you check the people giving this a bad review and look at their other posts, ie bjo6645_5478819 she pans everything so draw your own conclusions they must only eat Big Macs at her house she doesn't appreciate a good recipe. This was a fabulous dish and could be tweaked by an imaginative cook to make it personalized.
Too bad bjo won't be enjoying Thanksgiving dinner!!

I love making this for the holidays. Super easy too and all the ingrediants are easy to find. However, for the holidays I use Grand Marnier to make it extra special, but brandy works just as well too. The only thing I do different is put the alcohol in after the bacon...burns the alcohol off so you're left with flavor. The first time I made it I didn't cook the alcohol so it was quite "boozy" tasting. Such a hit at the holidays!

This is a great replacement for Green Bean Casserole, the whole family loved it. I used Knorrs Garlic and Basil steamer sauce mix once when I couldn't fine the Garlic Herb sauce mix, and it was just as good.

I made a few changes by adding 4 more pieces of bacon, sauteed mushrooms with the chopped onions and replaced the cognac with white wine. My whole family loved this on Thanksgiving.

You MUST use the Knorr Garlic Herb Sauce Mix or it will just not be the same consistency or taste.

Simple yet delicious recipe to make for any occasion!
