I made these for a work event. They turned out great. I didn't alter the recipe and used bisquick as another poster had mentioned. I would probably up the coffee next time, but other than that they were the perfect consistency and flavor.

I saw Sandra Lee make these on her chocolate chip episode, and I thought they looked pretty good. I was a little hesitant after reading the mixed reviews, but I decided to try them anyways. They are delicious! I think I'll make these for a breakfast potluck coming up at work. They're just novel enough to make you feel like you're trying something new and different, but familiar enough to make you WANT to try them. Like some of the other reviewers said, it's also a great base scone recipe that you can do your own thing with.

We really liked these, esp. for a 'quick' scone recipe. I used low fat Bisquick, whole milk instead of cream or coffee. Only used about 7/8 of a cup of chocolate chips total (no white and added 1/2 cup chopped pecans. Used 2 eggs in the scone dough and still added a tbsp. or so extra milk to make it slightly gooey. I used 1/2 tsp. almond extract to add some flavor, since I didn't use coffee.. After cooling I made a glaze with powdered sugar and a couple tbsp. orange juice. Really turned out just fine texture wise and flavor wise, was not dry at all. As far as I know, a scone is very much like a biscuit and the challenge is always keeping them from being too dry. Make sure dough is slighty gooey (if it sticks to the board too much might be too wet, don't work it too much - doesn't need a lot of mixing or needing, don't work a lot of flour in. Don't overcook them, and if you are going to use coffee- taste the coffee first, use a good quality. A drizzle of glaze makes a nice topping to scones and can make up for some of that 'dry, bland' stuff. As you can see, I think this is a good recipe to play with. These were all gone within 12 hours of making them.

I have to say I have never heard of a scone loaf. Neither has my british mother-in-law. A scone with tea is shaped like a triangle. And that's how i make them. Good job,Sandra.

It was wonderful sweet but not too sweet and easy to make. I love the chocolate, white chocolate coffee combo!

I'm amazed this recipe has gotten some bad reviews. I felt as if I was in a coffee shop when I ate them! Yum! I used Espresso instead of strong coffee, and added 3 Tbsp. of half and half instead of 2 T cream. Out of the oven and still warm I drizzled them with a glaze I made with espresso, half and half, and powdered sugar. They were so good I delivered some to the neighbors! Very quick and delicious.

These were good a little bit too sweet for me. Next time I will put in a little bit less baking mix and also reduce the amount of the chocolate chips. The egg wash on the top gave them a nice shine.

I love this recipe! It is quick to make, and tastes amazing. I had to start making a double batch, they are gone before I can get them onto a plate!
