It is cheating to review a recipe you have altered, but in this case, it is the method I am complimenting. I made the original recipe with shrimp and andouille sausage and it was delicious! I kept the reserve ingredients in the freezer for a couple of months, and one evening I made this soup for a hearty dinner in a snap! I did add a can of diced tomatoes and served the dish with a side of corn bread. Fire roasted tomatoes would be good, too. Cajun-schmajun! Delicious!!

Lafaytette This is a SOUP recipe that CONTAINS red beans and rice. Get your panties out of that wad and get over yourself. I have no idea about REAL Cajun food really and will not profess to, but I liked this recipe.

Thought it was absolutely awesome! As for Rob and Laf...they clearly have too much free time to judge something they haven't even tried. The entire point of cooking is to put your own spin on it. Sandra has never ordained that her methods are straight from roots of cajun cuisine-- yet- just a nod to what inspired her to make them. Get a life-- shut your mouths-- get a room and complain to each other all day-- the rest of us are bored with your antics. You're like gnats that we just can't seem to swat. Be gone!

This soup is great! You can make it as spicy as you want (we like it spicy. My husband, who does not like soup, liked this. Will make it again.

I am with you Lafayette, these Northern Cooks put some cajun season in their recipes and think it is cajun. Whats up with Chicken Jambalaya in Red Beans???? Don't even begin to call this mess of a recipe Red Beans, or even Red Bean Soup. This Lee doesnt have a clue.

Ok Lafayette, get over yourself. I'm from Lake Charles, La. I certainly know the difference. If you don't like this recipe, don't make it. I thought it was super tasty!! Thanx, Sandra!

I think that I would love to make a comment on Lafaytette's review...you can call any recipe soup if it has broth or a liquid in it...and there you have it...Soup!

I don't think she was actually calling 'red beans and rice' a soup. You can use the same ingredients as regular red bans and rice and create a soup. Just like chicken enchilada soup. It's not normally a soup but certainly is tasty as one. And by the way, I AM from southern Louisiana.
