I had this recipe from last year and started making them this year without reading the reviews. This recipe should be taken off the web or revised. The white chocolate does not melt and you can't dip the cookies in it. After using two 16 oz. bags of chocolate with out success, as the recipe says, I dumped them in the trash and made some royal frosting and they turned out GREAT. I had one spread with the white chocolate and my daughter thought the frosted ones were a lot better. Took a lot of time and wasted a lot of money on all the decorations. The Licorice got hard and broke off the next day so leave that off or use something else.

Desperately needs more shortening. Won't work otherwise.

I don't know why so many people had a hard time with this recipe. I used a pastry brush the chocolate up the cookie. I had all my hats made ahead of time so there was not time wasted there. Used mini chocolate chips for the eyes and mouth. These are really adorable, although, I would say not something I would make with kids--it does tend to be messy.

After reading everyone's complaints about the recipe I made some slight changes and the snowmen turned out great.
I melted 2 TBS of olive oil (EVOO in place of the shortening with one package of white chocolate chips. I didn't use the microwave, instead I put them in a small white bowl and put that in a pot of hot water. If you keep the water hot the chocolate won't get too thick. I didn't bother with the toothpicks. Just dip them in yourself (covering about 3/4 of the cookie and shake off the excess. A little brown will be showing on the cookie but it still looks nice. It lets everyone know what kind of cookie it is and it offsets the sweetness of the chocolate. Some of my cookies did break when I dipped them in the chocolate, but that was because the water had cooled down (so the chocolate was thick and the cookies were already cracked in the package. Then just decorate and let dry.

These looked so cute but I could not get the cookie to stay on the toothpick. Then the "coating" got too thick so it was too sweet. The "scarf" was too high up also. Friends said they looked like ghosts with belts!

This was a total disaster!! After 2 boxes of white chocolate squares, and 2 bags of morsels, I finally got an okay cookie. The chocolate turned black in the microwave, and the first bag of morsels never got thin enough to put on the cookies. I think next time, if there is one, I will use icing instead.

first of all, i had alot of trouble trying to melt the white chocolate morsels. I did exactly what the recipe calls for yet everytime the chocolate came out of the microwave it turned black. the sprinkles were getting on my nerves trying to separate the colors for the eyebrows, nose and mouth.I just gave up,also the toothpicks broke the ends of the cookies and wouldn't stay in the cookie. thank you suzanne

We decorated 2.5 cookies before laughing at our battle with these little monsters and giving up. I read the other reviews and thought I could overcome the lack of frosting stickiness, the problem with the toothpicks, and the overall problems the other reviews had. Well I couldn't, now I'm looking for a recipe that uses melted white chocolate chips with a little bit of shortening. Don't waste your time or money.
