HELLO-she is the Queen of Semi-Homemade. I agree with Diana, if you would rather make your own dough then go for it but why would you when you can save alittle time and buy pre-made. I myself don't have the extra time so I'm for anything that is quick and easy:

True the cookies this year have not been very festive looking, but these are what she is all about; semi-home made. I think they are great and easy. You want to complain about something, check out Melissa's citrus cookies. What a nightmare; and then her response to the comments was so rude! Love you Sandra and your cute little cookie recipe!!!!!!!!!!

To the people complaining about this calling for pre-made cookie dough....
Sandra Lee does a show called "Semi-homemade" where she uses existing products to make dishes quicker and easier for people who may not have the time, as in this case, to make homemade cookie dough. So relax, if you want to make your own dough you can, doesn't mean you have to complain about a recipe that is directed towards people that don't or can't!

I'd like to start by saying, to all those complaining about this recipe calling for pre-made, refrigerated dough, that sugar cookie dough is simple to make from scratch, so instead of using what this recipe calls for, just make your own! I also like baking from scratch when I have the time and make these with my own dough rather than store bought. No need to complain, or knock the recipe though!

That said, these cookies are delicious and really bring out, in my mind, some of the flavors of Christmas. Simple and fun to make, and are a hit at my holiday party.

I have 5 children and a full time job, so these cookies were perfect for our family. They were easy enough that all the kids could help in some way and they tasted really good too. We drizzle ours with melted chocolate chips for a chocolate-peppermint flavor. To Anne and Maggie: tis the season for love and joy. If you're making something from the heart, it doesn't matter if it's from scratch or not. Also, please don't rate the recipe if you haven't even made it!!!

last year, i made the candy cane version of these. i usually am a bake from scratch gal, but i wanted something cute for my daughter's class that she could help me with. i have a few suggestions, after making a second batch with these adjustments:
    1. use only half the peppermint recommended. it was very strong for children, and even a little bit for me (and i am a peppermint freak as far as i am concerned, mint in cookies should be subtle.
    2. after mixing everything in, refridgerate again, so that it will firm up. bringing it to room temp just makes it easier to mix everything in. but once you mix in, it can get very soft at room temp.
    3. instead of trying to twish and shape into canes (which was difficult even for my 8 yo, not to mention the 4yo, take two small balls and smush them together to make a swirl pattern. shape them into a flattened patty, to resemble a peppermint candy. after baking, wrap them in red, white and clear cello. the kids loved them after that.

the taste was not bad, though, and everyone appreciates a cute, homemade cookie. :

In today's fast pace, we should all thank companies that provide us with products that are time saving but also delicious. As a past contestant in the Pillsbury Bake-Off, which by the way, is the ultimate time saving source of many wonderful food products, you people who doubt the praises of a pre-made cookie dough, need to remember that last year's winner of the Bake-Off's $1,000,000.00 first place was a recipe with pre-made cookie dough!
Sandra Lee is not afraid to show us how to take shortcuts and come up with delicious dishes to serve our loved ones.

I am the type of cook who often tries to make cookies and pastries from scratch, but there are times when it is great to make quick cookies for my seven-year-old or for emergencies ("Mommy my class needs 2 dozen cookies tomorrow for the party".... All you mom's out there understand I am sure : This is a great recipe with a lot of holiday flavor. I live in a high elevation area, so I found it helpful to mix in 1/4 cup of flour into the dough to help keep the cookies from flattening out too much. If you do not like peppermint mints, simply omit them and replace with another treat you like.....it is easy to alter the flavot by adding different extracts and candies! Thanks Sandra, keep on cooking!
