The bars set up nicely and baked well, but the flavor was just not there for me. It felt like a cheesecake atop a brownie. If I was blindfolded, I would never have guessed they were "red velvet".

I absolutely love this recipe!!! I add cream cheese layer to many of my cakes now! It reminds me of Russian bakery! (I was born and raised in Russia. I used Red Velvet Cake mix instead of German chocolate cake mix the second time I cooked it - My husband loved it ;- I made it again for a party at my work - it was gone within minutes.

This recipe was very good! I made it for my little brothers baseball team and they loved it!!! My onlu problem was that they didn't taste much like red velvet usually does, more like chocolate cake with cream cheese on top. But i will use the recipe for the cream cheese frosting again!!

Just made these in two different batches. One using the original recipe and one using red velvet cake mix. The red velvet came out better and I also added about a tablespoon of water into the mix since it seemed rather pasty. I won't use a glass pan though since they started to burn a little after 35 minutes. Aluminum pan worked better. Definitely will make again but will tweak more to my style of cooking. Couldn't taste the cream cheese as much but hopefully they will taste better tomorrow

I was really looking forward to taking these bars to a family get together for the holidays. I read the other reviews & made changes accordingly. Their appearance was nice. The consistency turned out okay as well, but the taste was just odd. My family always nominates me to bring the dessert b/c I go out of my way to prepare something unique & homemade. These were a disappointment by all & I threw so many of them away.

I made these with CARROT CAKE mix and added 1/2 tsp almond extract to the cream cheese mixture, and obviously omitted the red food dye. They were amazing!!!! We had a house full of unexpected company and these were so quick and like little moist carrot cakes. I did watch them after 30 min. and took them out early. Tomorrow I am going to try with Lemon cake mix and lemon pudding mix added to the cream cheese mix. Great base recipe. :

DA ever make cheesecake? Any cheesecake recipe states refrigerate 12 hours to OVERNIGHT. This is cheesecakey so why not the overnight try. It was great. AND if whatever is cooking top of stove or oven starts to inpart fragrant CHECK IT means quite possibly it DONE. Thus it won't be dry.

I just didn't find this recipe worth the calories. I took the suggestion of a reviewer and increased sugar to one cup with the cream cheese and added 2 Tbsp vanilla. I gave my daughter a sample and she didn't rave about it either. I won't keep this one. I do very much enjoy watching Sandra Lee and her 'simple' table scapes that are beyond me.
