This was the easiest recipe to do but made the absolute best tasting, moistest turkey I have ever eaten. The breast meat was perfect and that is always a difficult task to keep it juicy while the remainder of the bird gets properly cooked. Even my mother in law, who always hosted Thanksgiving before we took up the torch, begrudgingly conceded her crown as queen of the turkey roasters once she ate this.
The gravy is fabulous! I do add a a cup of pinot noir to give it a bit more richness and flavor.

I have used this recipe several times, and will definitely use it again. I did make a couple small changes: instead of the seasoning mix I added the zest of one lemon and extra garlic to the butter. And those pop-up thermometers are garbage so I don't know why the recipe would even suggest using one... just used a regular meat thermometer and cook to 165 degrees, 180 is too much and the bird will be dry. My oven can't go to 450 degrees without setting off all the smoke alarms in the house, so I just cooked it longer at 350 and the skin still turned out brown and crispy.

I was always worried how my Thannkgiving turkey would turn out, it is the main attraction of your Thanksgiving meal after all. After watching Sandra Lee's Thanksgiving Special show three years ago, I have not had to worry ever again. This recipe is now my tried and true! Everyone loved the flavor, the moisture of the meat, and the aroma that filled the kitchen after
taking it out of the oven. I have now been designated as the person in my family to make the turkey ever year. I finally shared my secret this year that it was Sandra Lee whom deserves the credit for this wonderful tasting turkey. Try this recipe and you won't be disappointed, but be careful, you may find yourself having to make the holiday turkey every year!

This was the recipe I used three thanksgivings ago for the first Turkey I ever cooked on my own. It turned out fantastic! It was simple, and turned out delicious. Everyone was very impressed. I have used it every year since! Thanks Sandra Lee.
I haven't been able to find the Knorr's seasoning the recipe calls for, but I've used variations with other seasoning packets for chicken. Still turns out great.

Normally, I would not take the time to review a recipe, but this one is so fabulous that I just had to write about it. My friend, who is a wonderful cook, told me about this recipe. We followed the recipe exactly and the turkey was the best I have ever tasted. I would not say that I had ever tasted a really memorable Thanksgiving turkey before, but this changed everything. Incredibly moist white meat. Wow! We brought the turkey to room temperature before cooking, followed Sandra's recipe to the letter (except my dad suggested not opening the oven door for the first two hours and then basting every 40 minutes after that. We cooked an 18 pound turkey for four hours. Absolutely fantastic. I am going to try this same technique for roasted whole chicken, too. We will be cooking our turkey with this recipe every year. Delicious and moist, moist, moist!!

I tried this recipe for the first time Thanksgiving day and while the bird was wonderful, the pan drippings were over powered with the lemon flavor. I believe the lemon rind on the lemon slices made it too strong. I'll try it again ... think I'll experiment by using a whole chicken and squeezing fresh lemon juice into the pan -- omitting the rind altogether. Wish me luck...

YUMMY, EASY, YUMMY! I usually buy fried turkeys which we love, but couldn't find one after moving to a new area. I used this recipe yesterday and was not at all disappointed! I used orange slices instead of lemon b/c I wanted a milder flavor and it was excellent! Everyone loved it! So moist and flavorful! No one even mentioned missing our usual fried!

This is the first time I haven't cooked my turkey in a bag, and the first time I buttered under the skin.. it was also the best turkey I have ever made! I will also be using this recipe for every Thanksgiving in the future.
