But looks aren't everything. It was the horrid taste that my family objected to.

I don't know what was worse: the oil and the mint or the rose and the goat cheese. Nobody at my soiree even finished one of these. >:(

I AM SORRY SANDRA. USUALLY I AM A BIG FAN BUT THIS WAS NOT UP TO PAR. BAD COMBINATION OF FLAVORS. MAYBE NEXT TIME. YOU'RE STILL A DOLL TO ME THOUGH.

I happened to be at Sur La Table last week and spotted candied rose petals so I thought I'd give this recipe a whirl. I had to buy expensive Chilean watermelon at this time of year. The melon/rose combination was just okay, not as repulsive as some reviewers found it. However, there was no way to keep the bits of candied rose from sticking also to the goat cheese and let me tell you, that was a horrific flavor experience. I'd have made this an all fruit (no olive oil which actually did nothing for the melon anyway skewer with a teeny bit of ground candied rose petal or a savory cheese skewer with the citrus oil. Not going to waste money and effort on this exact recipe again.
