Although I saw this episode on TV and it looked absolutely great I was skeptical after reading all the reviews. Husband took one look at the crockpot as I started cooking this and said it looked terrible. As the day went on the smell was great but I was worried because I started seeing the grease dripping from the meat. Turned out great. Potatoes tasted wonderful with the cheese flavor. Would not make this meatloaf all the time but was good for a change. It passed the husband test.

I made this following the recipe except that I used twice the amount of potatoes based on the comments in other reviews. My husband and boys liked it and had seconds. Their opinion: It was good, they'd eat it again, but they probably wouldn't ask me to make it again. It wasn't a very pretty dish--since the mushrooms and onions on top etc don'tt really get browned. I'm sure it would look better if baked in the oven. I found the potatoes O'Brien a little overwhelming with the peppers -- but I'm not a big Potatoes O'Brien fan, and of course, I had doubled the potatoes. If I make this again, I will either cook the meatloaf on the rack as suggested by another reviewer, cut up red potatoes as the base in the crockpot, or I will use plain hash browns. Doubling the potatoes seemed to avoid the issue of having them dissolve into nothing, and the boys liked the fact that they could get generous helpings. Overall, the family opinion was that they'd rather have Mom's meatloaf and mashed potatoes. The dish overall is too expensive to justify no "wow" factor.

Everyone who ate this dish in my house loved it. It was so simple to make and it turned out to be so tender and flavorful. I will definately be making this again.

This recipe looks and sounds like it shouldn't work, but it does. It's not exactly budget-friendly with all those mixes and soups, but the first time I made it, it disappeared in hours. I made it again the following week and it was just as good. I don't use the potatoes on the bottom anymore tho because they just get soggy and don't add much unless you want to mash them to make a gravy. Instead, I prop the loaf up on the rack that came with the slow cooker and fry up the potatoes on the side. I also lightly saute the onions before adding them as I like mine softer. Then I make a roux and thicken the gravy (after skimming off the fat. Delicious!

I've made it a couple of times. It's very good but only make it if you a lot of people or a few very big eaters! Deb--Mn

The reviews almost scared me off, but I decided to give it a try. We (my husband and I really liked this. It was a nice change of pace from regular meatloaf. I did miss the tomato topping and I felt a little guilty about all that condensed soup that goes in here. Overall a decent meatloaf...

Excellent flavor, agree wth some, potatoes did get mushy, maybe would add more, and use less soup mixture in meatloaf and on the top--
Would definately make again, and will give out recipe also.

This is absolutely the worst thing I have ever eaten. I love to cook and try new dishes, but this was awful. The meatloaf was a big soupy mess. The potatoes scorched to the bottom of the crock pot and dissappeared to nothing. Very greasy and mushy. The flavor was awful. What a waste of food! Don't think I'll even feed that to my dog!

My husband said this was the best meatloaf he had ever had! I did add a splash of hotsauce to mine and it was very tasty! I fgured the potatoes would be pretty soggy so I made mashed potatoes on the side and used the soggy ones as a gravy. Will definitely make again.

Sandra Lee, I'm a big fan of you and your show, but this meatloaf was very bland.

Next time we make this...you and I should think of adding salt, pepper, ketchup (a staple for any meatloaf, hot sauce, any maybe even some chili powder and/or chayenne pepper.

Otherwise, keep up the great recipes and tablescapes.

    Sincerely,

    Steve M.
