I've made these the last two years and they've been very good. Certainly easy! The added flour keeps them from spreading too much and losing their shape when baking. My one change (and I don't think I'd make these cookies without it: For added flavor, instead of using all vanilla extract, I use half vanilla extract and half almond extract. This makes a big difference. I also use almond extract rather than vanilla in the royal icing, which makes the cookies much more flavorful as well.

It was really easy, but it did take more flour since the dough was so sticky. I think this added flour made it more bland.
They were just ok. The icing made them taste better, but they still were not a hit with my friends and family. Next time I will stick with just the regular mix.
They did not leave me wanting more ... better for my waistline anyway.

I thought these cookies were adorable but I wasn't thrilled with the taste. I made one batch Sandra's way and one batch according to the packaged cookie mix directions - the mix recipe was much better. I still used the royal icing recipe and was pleased with the way the decorated cookie looked.

A friend of mine and I made and decorated these with our kids. They're easy to make, fun to decorate, and tasted really great! I only made one small change: someone in a previous review made a comment about there being too much cream cheese in the recipe, so I cut the amount of cream cheese in half. Other than that, we kept the recipe as is. The cookies were a hit with the kids (and the grown-ups.

I wish she had a picture on line of how she did it on her show. They were really beautiful. Does anyone have what she used for the blue icing...was it a gel?

I saw Sandra Lee making these cookies the day before a scheduled cookie baking session with my family. Perfect! The semi-homemade aspect made these cookies so easy to mix up. I already used a recipe calling for cream cheese but the cookie mix shortened the preparation considerably. They do take a lot of flour as the dough is pretty sticky, but they roll out nice and smooth and puff up instead of out, maintaining their integrity. They were a bit bland but that could be the result of the mix brand I used. I used a homemade cream cheese frosting. The best part, though, was the fun we had making, baking and decorating. As the ad goes: "Priceless".

I made this recipe in my kitchenaid mixer and added extra flour and the consistency was perfect for cut out cookies. The dough was so easy to work with, it was almost like play dough. I used air cushion type cookie sheets, and used the convection setting on my oven, and the cookies came out perfect for decorating with the royal icing. This was just the cookie recipe I was looking for to make cut out christmas cookies.

I will definitely be using this recipe for my Christmas cookies next year, but I think I'll go even more semi-homemade. Skip the royal icing and buy the premade cream cheese stuff.

this recipie is wonderful - absolutely addictive. i made much smaller cookies than she did on TV, and using a small cookie cutter it made about 50 cookies. definitely make 2 batches of the frosting (that frosted all but a few of my cookies. adding the sparkly sugar on top definitely makes it even better. some people may have not liked the dough on its own because it's not very sweet, but it's *perfect* with the icing and sugar crystals (just be sure to frost them!
