I read other reviews about the cake being dry so I followed the instructions she gave for the cake but changed the following: I used 1 cup of orange yogart instead of 1/2 cup, added 1/4 cup ap flour, 1/4 cup veg oil and 1/2 cup water.
The cake turned out great. Also for the icing I used 1 tbsp cinnamon and 1 tsp of orange flavoring. I candied the orange slices but left them off because they interfeared with the slicing of the cake and just used the toasted almonds on the top. I also made this as a sheet cake and the baking time was the same. I am not a fan of spice cake but I enjoyed this one. I hope these changes help you all.

I have made this cake for my family for two consecutive Christmas. The first year I added the yogurt as indicated. This did nothing but make the cake dry- but my family still ate it. The next year I just made the cake according the mix directions- It was a BIG hit with the fam....this year I'm planning on making it again.

How wasteful to throw out the orange juice and sugar syrup instead of using it to flavor the cream cheese frosting and to throw out the almonds that she spilled from the sides of the cake. They could have been dropped on top of the cake before adding the oranage slices. She looked great but she must have more money to waste than most of us.

I love this cake, it was lite but very flavorable. The combination of the orange and spice and almonds made it comfort dessert. I plan to bake this cake for a group of Catholic Nuns in October. Thank you Sandra Lee

We had this cake for Christmas and it was a hit. However, as another reviewer suggested they would do in the future, we made the spice cake itself according to the box and left out the yogart. I think it might of been on accident though.
