This recipe is simple to make if you use the right cookie cutter shapes and the right candy for the holes. I find that Lifesavers are just the right size and eliminates the mess and extra work created by having to break other candies up (ie Jolly Ranchers and spoon them into the holes. You can add food coloring to the cookie dough to make the cookies more festive. No need to reserve this recipe for Christmas time. The cookies have an addictive flavor and texture - oh soooo good! Anyone who had a negative result either made a mistake with this simple recipe or doesn't know how to do perform simple baking. This recipe should be "idiot" proof.

I made this reciepe as one of my Christmas cookies. My first go at them was difficult but I followed the directions and they came out perfect. I made them the following year and found some tricks to help perfect them. The key is to keep the dough as cold as possible so the cookie will maintain the best shape. Also it's important not to over cook them. This year, to the disappointment of my family, I did not make them for Christmas. Everyone was so upset that after Christmas I bought special stained glass window cookie cutters and from now on these will be the only cookies I make at Christmas.

I read all of these reviews and i am sad to say that all of you who had trouble must be horrible cooks because simple changes to the recipe made wonderful results. The cookies I and my boyfriend made looked amazing and tasted very, very yummy. Just remember to only put the oven on at 350 rather then 375 and you will love the results. We used jolly ranchers and it was delicious. I hope that when someone is new to the site like myself and is just trying to find a lovely recipe to cook will not be discouraged by the horrible comments that people with bad judgment wrote, Once again all of the batches of cookies myself and my boyfriend made turned out wonderful. Thank you for this lovely recipe.

I used a different suger cookie/cream cheese recipe and also added cherry juice and chopped maraschino cherries with a bit of food coloring. These really turned out pretty. I baked them at 360 and I crushed my Jolly Ranchers finely and had no problem. They didn't burn, the colors didn't run, and they were easy to eat. I think if the candy is too thick it probably would be hard to eat. I didn't like the large cookies though. They were too hard to handle and I would have been there all night. I used regular cookie cutters and just put a circle (used the top of a soda bottle in each one. Even with one circle they still looked fine. I wish I did have children to help me. If my son was still small, I am sure he would have loved making these.

I am pleased with how well these turned out for me, after reading some of the reviews. I set the oven at 350 degrees as some had suggested. They took 10 minutes in my oven. I used only red and green jolly ranchers, and they turned out beautiful. I especially love the large Christmas tree cutout, with ornaments made from poking a straw. The smaller shapes seem to be easier to eat, rather than biting into a large wafer of hard candy. The cookies themselves are chewy and rich.

Not too shabby, but I think the cookies puffed up a bit more than I liked.

I tried this recipe for the Holidays but the candy for the "glass" taste burnt and had a very bitter flavor.

This recipe took WAY TOO LONG for such a HORRIBLE outcome. The recipe states CRUSH candy, but you actually need to leave it just broken up into pieces or it melts too quickly and burns. Also, the recipe calls for a 375 degree oven, but I taped the show, Sandra says 350, so I burned the first batch. I did like the basic sugar cookie recipe, as I gave up after the second batch and just made regular cut-outs, they had a nice flavor.
