Ingredients

  • 1 (12-ounce) bag white chocolate chips
  • 16 drops yellow food coloring
  • 8 drops red food coloring
  • 1 pound extra-large strawberries
  • 1/4 cup milk chocolate chips

Directions

In a large microwavable glass bowl combine white chocolate chips and food coloring. Melt in microwave for 1 to 1/2 minutes stopping to stir every 30 seconds

Dip the extra-large strawberries into the white chocolate allowing excess chocolate to drip off. Set on a baking sheet covered with waxed paper. Place in refrigerator for 10 minutes. If chocolate sets up while dipping just place it back into the microwave for 15 seconds.

While the strawberries are cooling, place milk chocolate chips into a releasable plastic sandwich bag and close. Microwave for 20 to 30 seconds. Snip 1 corner with scissors and decorate the strawberries like Jack-O-Lanterns.

I couldn't find strawberries with stems so I use a cocktail umbrella (still folded up to hold the strawberries while i dipped them . They were so easy to make, except for decorating them. Microwaving on medium heat still melted a little hole in the bag so i just put it inside another bag and at 1st it worked out good. I only decorated 2 strawberries then the chocolate seized towards the tip and was just difficult to use. so I used a tooth pick dipped in chocolate for decorating . It works but is also difficult. Next time I make them i'll probably use icing instead of chocolate to decorate them.

After two batches of white chocolate that seized into a solid mass, I discovered that my food coloring was water-based which causes chocolate to seize. I couldn't find oil-based food coloring so I had white ghosts instead of jack-o-lanterns.

These were so much fun to make! I read the earlier posts. The only thing I can think of that went wrong, would be to make sure your fruit, utensils etc are completely dry. If you have ever worked with melted chocolate before, you will know to make sure everything is perfectly dry. Melting chocolate in a double boiler always works best for me. Also add about a tablespoon of shortening to it while it's melting. One more thing is instead of cutting the baggie, usa a bamboo skewer to poke a hole in the corner...the chocolate comes out in a very small hole so you can decorate to your heart's content.
I had so much fun making these...I can't wait to surprise my guests on Saturday...I know they will love them. Thank you Sandra, another cute idea!
