Left out the food coloring!! And added some nuts!! I had to put off making them for a few days. I understand you have to have to make meringues on a day with low humidity. Everyone enjoyed them.

These "cookies" were the most terrible things ever!!!! I made them and followed the recipe exactly and well they didn't turn out well, you could say it was the most unspeakable thing that ever came out of my oven!!! The had the consistency of a packing peanut mixed with salt water taffy and cotton candy. I have all respect for Sandra Lee but really those things were terrible especially for me they almost tore my fillings out of my teeth!!!!

I saw Sandra do this on TV, and thought it would be a perfect addition to my afternoon tea that I was hosting. While I had no problem getting them to turn out (using her tips and other reviewers, I definitely won't be doing them again. First of all, they're too expensive. Between buying egg whites separately, food coloring and extract, I spent about $20 on ingredients. Secondly, they resemble styrofoam, and stick mercilessly to your teeth. I agree with the other reviewers who said it was like eating cotton candy, so while it tastes fine, it's not a cookie in the traditional sense. My guests didn't like them any better than I did, and as a result, I have lots of leftovers. Not the result I was hoping for.

I was thinking, could you use strawberry jello mix with the egg whites and get the strawberry taste, using this instead of all the other ingerdients.

I have a 50 50 sucses rate at making meringue cookies. i did some searching and from my experience here is what I know. To those that got chewy cookies bake them longer. Dont use plastic bowels to make them in, oils some times stick to plastic even though you think you cleaned the bowel really well. If you are using an oil based flavoring add it at the last second or the mixture will go flat if you have more than what your despensing tool can hold try putting the remaning mix in the fridge untill you are ready for it but dont forget about it I dont know how long it will hold its form. For some reason this meringue doesnt like oilly substances mixed in it I'm sure there is a reason but I'm not a chemist. Using parchment paper is really the best thing to use when making these. Dont use cooking spray it will melt the bottoms and you will have crunchy camelized candy on the bottom that may or may not have runned with a fluffy meringue top. That happened to the first batch I ever made of this kind of cookie. I like this recipe the one I was using didnt call for cream of tartar and I think they turn out better with it added.

This recipe is great! Really easy and quick. I made meringue cookies for the first time ever and they came out perfect! The only thing I changed was the oven time, I baked them for 2 hours and they came out crisp and airy.

I'm usually very good at following a recipe but i found this really hard to make. The first time i tried to make it the peaks didn't happen but that was my fault i didnt do it right. This morning when I tried again the batter worked well and smelled and looked great but once i got it in my oven an hour later they wouldnt come off of the tin foil and weren't what i thought they would be. I tried it with lemon extract and orange extract instead of strawberry, because thats what my supermarket had. Maybe it was my oven since its old, or it may just be me but I had a really hard time making these. After three batches only about 10 cookies were saveable, but let me tell you those ten cookies were DELICIOUS!
