The cupcakes didn't raise, I'm thinking because the recipe should have called for eggs. I'm going to try making them again following the box instructions and substituting white grape juice for water. The decorating would have been better looking had the cupcakes raised properly.

I loved the way the cupcakes decorate. The cupcakes were not so great. They fell apart when you ate them. My suggestion is use another cupcake reciepe and decorate using the gels she suggested. They come out looking beautiful.

Sandra Lee is amazing!!! I made these cupcakes 3 times and only once did they not fall apart. I thought it was me but I see I wasn't the only one with that problem. I will try following the directions on the box next time.

Since you are using a boxed cake mix don't expect anything mind-blowing when it comes to taste. Save yourself a lot of money and purchase a confetti cake mix. I didn't notice that the addition of your own "sprinkles" made much a difference compared with a confetti cake mix.
I added eggs as suggested by other reviewers.
Basically, this is a fun way to decorate cupcakes. The gels are easy to use and provide for a lot of creativity.

Not bad, but nothing will ever match the Kwanzaa cake recipe.
